Known Issues 6.1 Windows Me, driver shows error code 10. This is a known bug in Windows Me wi th certain systems and is described in Microsoft Knowledge Base article KB268452. Obtain and apply the pat ch. 6.2 When installing on Windows 98SE, Windows may prompt for the original Windows 98 CD-ROM to be inserted. If the CD-ROM is not inserted when requested, then Windows will subsequently reboot with error messages relating to missing files. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that the Windows 98SE CD-ROM is available before installation starts. 6.3 Surprise removal of the hardware on 98SE and Me can result in a system crash . To prevent this, the device must be stopped prior to removal. Use the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in the system tray to properly stop the card before ejecting it. 6.4 If you are prompted to reboot the laptop during software installation, you m ay find that the Manager application attempts to start before all of the drivers are installe d. The scenario

is that the New Hardware Wizard is still busy installing the 2 device drivers, t he Manager splash screen appears, followed by a warning dialog "You must have a GCxx Wirele ss Modem installed to run this application. Please install a GCxx Wireless Modem and try again" Cli ck OK. Wait for the New Hardware Wizard to complete, rebooting the laptop if required, then start th e Manager using the icon on the desktop or via Start | Programs | Sony Ericsson | Wireless Manager. 6.5 Certain Toshiba laptops require a BIOS update in order to operate correctly with the GC75/79/8x cards. The problem is that the card must be driven at 3.3V but the laptop does n ot recognise the standard identifiers for 3.3V cards and sets the power supply to 5V. Check the Toshiba su pport website for details. Document ID 98060245 refers. In one case (Tecra 8100) a further Microsoft patch Q265296 for Windows 2000 was required. It is recommended that a service engineer checks the PC card voltage. The card c an be damaged when 5V is applied. 6.6 Under Windows 98SE, there is sometimes a conflict with an IR driver installe d on COM4, where the IR driver has not been declared to Windows in the normal way. Uninstall the GC79 Manager and re-install with the IR disabled (a) in the Control Panel and (b) in the BIOS. If this fails, try and uninstall a device from COM 1, 2 or 3 and then reinstall the GC79 Manager so that COM 1, 2 or 3 is free for the GC79 Wireless Modem. 6.7 If the Connection Wizard and the Connect button both go grey, check that the Sony Ericsson Wireless WAN adaptor is enabled. If the problem persists, try rebooting the machine and if th at fails, reinstall Wireless Manager. As a workaround, a GPRS connection can be set up by setting up a normal Windows Dial-Up Networking Connection to telephone number *99***2# over the Sony Ericsson GC79 Wireless Mod em.

7. To Uninstall a) Go to Start | Settings | Control Panel | Add/Remove software b) Find Sony Ericsson Wireless Manager in the list and click 'Change/remove. Fol low instructions. c) Repeat for 'Sony Ericsson Wireless Modem Driver.
