Campaign Media Release Candidate for Brisbane Fiona McNamara

ABBOTTS TEAM: NO ONE CARES ABOUT JOB LOSSES When a politician claims no one cares about 14000 job cuts, you would have to think theyre out of touch with their community, Labor candidate for Brisbane, Fiona McNamara, said today. I am just appalled to hear one of Tony Abbotts candidates the LNPs Teresa Gambaro saying that no one cares about the thousands of jobs cuts by the Newman Government, she said. Ms Gambaro claims theres no community resentment about these job losses because no one has talked to her about it, Ms McNamara said. Not a single voter in my Brisbane electorate has raised it with me. No one talks to me about it. Courier Mail. 30 August.

These comments are just extraordinary almost unbelievable from someone who wants to represent their community in Parliament. It makes me wonder who she talks to in nearly every conversation Ive had with local constituents, genuine concern has been raised about cuts to jobs and services. Those job losses are not just administrators but frontline health workers including over 1000 nurses from our local hospitals. Many of the 14000 people whove lost their jobs live in this electorate and they have families and friends who have been sharing their pain of not having regular work. Our local businesses are feeling the effects as well with fewer customers coming through the door. Having 14000 people lose their jobs is a large number by any standards and nearly every person I speak with has been touched by this in some way. These comments from Ms Gambaro show she is not only out of touch with this community, but her extraordinary unsympathetic comments show she has no idea what its like to lose your job or be out of work. And we know this is just the tip of the iceberg if Tony Abbott wins the election. Campbell Newman has been urging Mr Abbott to follow his model this is a model that has seen an attack on public service jobs, health services and education.

And Teresa Gambaro has demonstrated shell stand by silently if Tony Abbotts cuts affect local jobs. Brisbane needs an MP wholl stand up for locals, not someone wholl sit on their hands. Media contact: Fiona McNamara or Tom Kenny on 0413741260 BRISBANE 30 August 2013
