History

The home of Fort Granby, where noted Revolutionary War battles were fought, Cayce was formed in 1914. The city originated from a trading post which was seized by the British army during the Revolutionary War and later bought by William J. Cayce and his family. In the early 1900s, Uncle Billy Cayce converted the building into his family residence and opened a nearby general store, which was referred to by the locals as Cayce Crossing. The town was later incorporated in 1914 and named for Cayce and his family.

Festivals

Christmas in Cayce is one of the citys most notable festivals which brings couples and families from all over the state. Partygoers can enjoy lantern tours of Revolutionary war scenes envisioned and brought to life, sing carols along the Cayce Riverwalk, explore the Lights of Cayce, see the Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony, as well as many more fun, seasonal experiences you and your family will cherish forever. Congaree Bluegrass Festival is a time for great music, great food and great fun for residents and visitors alike. The festival is host to local bands that will get you and your family grooving to new and old favorites. There will even be a bouncy house and bouncy slide to entice those young and young at heart to cut loose. The festival is at Granby Gardens Park October 6 from 11 a.m.- 6 p.m. and also includes free open house tours to the Cayce Historical Museum.

Cayce Riverwalk

The Cayce Riverwalk is built along the Congaree River giving residents and tourists passages for walking, running, biking, or sightseeing the beautiful scenery that was once the riverfront settlement of Granby in the 1750s. The walk extends for two and a half miles of living history, with historical markers to guide tourists along the way. Whether your exercising, or just wanting to enjoy the perfect Cayce weather, the Cayce Riverwalk is a little piece of history that is a treasure to explore. Open daily until dark, the Cayce Riverwalk can be accessed at either the intersection of Axtell Drive and Naples Avenue or State Street and Lucas Street.

Cayce Historical Museum

The Cayce Historical Museum is a chance for lovers of story and history to know the origins of Cayce and its surrounding Midlands settlements dated back to the Revolutionary War. The museum is housed in a replica of the trading post seized by the British army during the Revolutionary War, later turned into Uncle Billy Cayces general store, and nally transformed into the heart of the city. The museum harvests history as far as the 1700s, when the Midlands of South Carolina were referred to as the back country. The Cayce Historical Museum is open Tuesday-Friday 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday 2 p.m.-5 p.m.
