Everyone has been complaining about pollution and the dirty streets, but no one has done anything about it. Alan has talked with their teacher and Lynn has visited some important businessmen in their community. The businessmen have offered to give a new bicycle to the student who collects the most trash from the park and the streets in their neighborhood. They have given large trash bags to all the people who volunteered to clean the area. Alan, Lynn and some of their classmates have been working for several hours and they have cleaned the park and many streets. They have enjoyed working together for everyone's benefit.

A WORK OF LOVE
A few years ago Shirley and Amy took a trip to the south. Nobody told them about the conditions they would encounter in some of the small villages there: Nobody was working in the fields. Everybody was inside their houses because it rained heavily . The roads were washed out, but no one had the resources to pave them . The children had to walk for hours before getting to the only school in the area. Amy asked, "why doesn't somebody do something to help these people?". There wasn't anyone who could give her an answer. When Shirley and Amy returned home they thought they should try to help some of the poor people in their own city. Someone found out about their plans and gave them some ideas and supplies. Nobody believed Shirley and Amy would go to a poor area to work. In a few months everyone was surprised to see so many changes in the neighborhoods they had visited. Shirley and Amy took some friends with them and they taught the people how to make the best use of the things they had.
