Marlows Tavern Named 2013 Statewide Platinum Partner by Special Olympics Georgia Atlanta-Area Restaurants Recognized for Outstanding Contribution and Service
ATLANTA (September 4, 2013) Marlows Tavern, Sterling Spoon Culinary Management and Aqua blue Restaurant & Bar are hosting their 15th Annual Marlows Tavern Golf Classic to benefit Special Olympics Georgia (SOGA) on Monday, September 23, and this years tournament comes with an added honey pot: SOGA has named Marlows Tavern a 2013 Platinum Partner of the charitable organization. We are honored to be considered a Platinum Partner; it is further motivation for us to make this years Golf Classic the most successful yet, says John C. Metz, co-founder and executive chef of Aqua blue, Marlows Tavern and Sterling Spoon Culinary Management. Over the past 14 years, this annual golf tournament and Marlows Tavern restaurant openings have raised close to $425,000 for athletes with intellectual disabilities in Georgia. In 2012 alone, Marlows Tavern raised over $52,000 for SOGA, earning them the distinction as a 2013 Statewide Platinum Partner. Marlows Tavern is one of only four companies with this partnership recognition. SOGA is extremely proud and appreciative of Marlows Taverns support and friendship, says Susan Skolnick, director of development and major gifts for SOGA. These funds support year-round sports training and athletic competition for our athletes, and based on the average cost for an athlete to attend a weekend-long State Games competition, Marlows Tavern has provided this life-changing experience to approximately 4,670 people. Statewide partners like Marlows Tavern support the overall goals and growth of SOGA in the areas of programming, outreach, awareness and advocacy. Partnership monies help cover expenses associated with sports training and athletic competitions, health screenings, public education and new athlete recruitment. As a Platinum Partner of SOGA, Marlows Tavern employees have earned the privilege of being involved in all State Games, affording them valuable volunteer and team building opportunities. Marlows Tavern executives are now also invited to help with award presentations during State Games and attend other special SOGA events to further assist the organization.
