Activity Time (1) Engage in small talk and check how Andreys presentation for his job 5 mins is coming on. (A phrase from yesterday) (2) Andrey does his presentation and T makes notes about 15 mins improvements. Before relaying this feedback as SS if he has any ideas about what he did well and what he needs to improve, then give feedback. Present t presentation and ask SS to check if all four stages are included and to write down any special phrases used. (3) Using the picture cards, SS make sentences using quantifiers to 10 mins describe what he can see. He must try to make questions, negatives and positives. T can elicit reasons for his sentences by asking why etc to have SS extend his speaking. (4) Focussing on the language for hooks, SS makes three different hooks (one fact, one problem and one story) for three different topics from his set of cards. He then practises using these. (5) Ask if he knows any financial diagrams and ask to draw and explain how to use them. And why we use them. (5.1) Focus on the charts, graphs and diagrams in book. Check if he knows what they are and what they are used for. Elicit the names for some of them and encourage to find the names for any essential ones. Explain that names are not essential and example how to refer to them without using a specific name. (5.2) discuss bad and good uses of visuals that he has experienced. Perhaps his own experiences. 15 mins (5.3) Organise the three extracts for referring to visuals into the boxes. (6) Look at some example visuals. Ask if we have to talk about every aspect of them in detail? What should we do then? After Andrey gives some answers look at the advice box on page 22. (6.1) Look at ways to highlight details and complete the examples with prepositions. Explain again that now we must comment on the highlighted part, and complete the examples before finally focussing on drawing conclusions on the points highlighted. (7) Given time, role-play with some of the visuals. 5 mins 15 mins
