Chapter-14 Programming Softwares.

Digital energy metes have to be programmed / configured for proper working of the energy meters. Each type of energy meter has specific software / code of instruction, which must be supplied by the energy meter manufacture. These software configure the hard ware to perform the required function i.e. measurements and record each of the measurement in relevant register. Few of the software commonly used with associated energy meter in our system are summarized as follows. How ever individuals are advised to operate the soft wares available with them and be a master of that. Meter Type 1. 2. 3. 4. CEWE

SOFTWARE.

ProMeter (CEWE) reading soft ware. Following are the three available software from CEWE instrument AB ProWin Software for local or remote configuring and reading the registers in the ProMeter . Proread Simple software for reading the data storage memory (data logging feature of the ProMetre xx43). Complements the ProWin. EnerBase Software for automatic scheduled meter reading and SQL database management.

Configuring the ProMeter. It is recommended that digital energy meter must be configured before installation. If any problem do exist with the meter configuration, its replacement can be had. Setting up user-programmable functions. The data stored in the ProMeter is of three different kinds, parameters defining the functions used, measured values of energy and periodical average power values, maximum demands, and calibration data. During the manufacturing process the meter is initialized with data that never is to be changed, defining the basic functions, serial number, and similar information. Before the meter can be put into operation, the necessary set-up has to be performed. To define the user-programmable functions, a configuration has to be made. During manufacturing a standard configuration is applied if nothing else is requested. This configuration can be changed by the user, using the ProWin software. The configuration can be modified to set the use of registers, tariffs, maximum demands, digital inputs, digital outputs, communication channel parameters, meter constants and transformers ratios, what can be read off the display and much more. As you enter the password, a wizard appears, and after 10 seconds software opens in window format. Using the ProWin software. Detailed instructions on how to use the ProWin software to configure the ProMeter is described in the ProMeter manual part named PROWIN . Following is the list of features that can best describe the software. Software versions and revisions. Configuring basic parameters with ProWin. Depending on ProMeter version the following basic parameters shall be configured in every ProMeter before use. 1. The read time clock shall be set to display the correct time. 2. The measuring transformers ratios used has to be configured for the meter to calculate and store primary values. 3. Various meter constants have to be set. 4. Meter register constant are set automatically by the meter software. 5. Before configuring a meter in service, read the meter register, some may be reset when changing the configuration.

Measuring (instruments) transformers have errors add to system inaccuracy. If these errors are known it would be worthwhile to correct for them in order to maintain a better system measuring accuracy, or simply avoid replacing the measuring transformers when upgrading the system accuracy. Corrections for measuring transformer errors, CTs and VTs can be done for phase angle error and magnitude error (volts and amps). Compensation for power transformers losses can be done for iron losses (magnetization losses) that are more or less constant (as long as the voltage is constant), and copper losses (resistive losses) that varies as the square of the current. The losses are treated as positive quantity and are added to an import measurement and are subtracted from an export measurement. The errors to store in the ProMeter are the measuring transformer VT and CT magnitude (%) and phase angle (minutes) errors for each phase. For the power transformer iron-losses and copper-losses (%) for active and reactive measurements are stored. These constants shall be average values over the load range or weighted values for the prevailing loads. Any nonlinearity (except for I-square for the copper losses) is not considered.

PRI APEX SOFTWARE.

WinRecom is the software mostly employed PRI APEX digital energy meter. This software is also windows type with icons at the top. Some additional features are added as reactive energy recording in four quadrants, more number of input /output ports and different communication protocol. 14-4

Reader is advised to go through the relevant manual of PRI APEX energy meter to have a detailed description of the soft ware, which is skipped here due to shortage of time and space. 3. ISKRA MT-860 SOFTWARE

Meterview 4.9 is the usually employed ISKRAEMECO energy meter type MT-860. This software is also windows type with icons at the top. Some additional features are added like event log which records the events happening with the energy meter like supply cut-off, supply restored, meter cover opened in chronological order. Among this feature, Phasor analysis, Harmonic analysis, Transient analysis, make this digital energy meter most popular and recommended as C.D.P energy meter. Its display can be energized through data cable (called as sonda cable) which, make it convenient to verify the configuring process by visible display. No power supply is needed for this purpose. This type of sonda cable is almost double in price as compared to ordinary cable through which meter display can not be energized. Meter View 4.9 was designed to simplify parameterization and testing of electronic electricity energy meter. Its main feature are: * * * Parameterization of various devices through unified user interface. Different control readings for meter testing. Support for different communication and media.

After entering the user name and pass word, its widow appears with i-cones at the top. Wizard also appears for help. Pull down menu option of the program, made it users friendly.
