A discussion of the value of crocheting, sewing and knitting. Samples of the things you can do. Followed by a demonstration of quilting on a treadle. I'll have projects in process for knitting and crochet. The demonstration will be creating a quilt top, showing it can be easy. Visitors will see several facets of Urban Homesteading - critters, gardens and fabric arts.

This talk will cover adding a chicken yard to your backyard. Few urban backyard are big enough to allow for truly free ranging chickens. We'll cover the space requirements both indoor and outdoor; where to locate your chicken yard; and fencing to keep the chickens in and predators out.

Five families share a coop and flock of chickens, each running it one week at a time. Three of the families, including the property on which the coop is located, live adjacent to one another. The others live a few blocks away. Learn how to work with your neighbors and friends to keep chickens and keep them alive.

If you can't keep your goats happy & healthy, you will never get to the fun part - milking. We will cover adopting bottle fed babies versus an adult doe in milk, wethers (neutered males) as pets,and some obstacles such as lack of local veterinary care; review our goat medicine cabinet and emergency kit; what and what not to feed and the potential lethal consequences of not getting it right; examples of housing, goat playgrounds, space and fencing requirements. We will cover our progress with city ordinance and the outlaw goat situation. You'll come away with a clear picture of what all mini goats entail so you can make an informed decision before adding them to your homestead.
