GREEN INITIATIVE FOR POWERING OFF GRID BASE STATIONS

Alternatives for Powering Telecommunications Base Stations

ECOpx Integrated hybrid system with an unique architecture

ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY Unique integrated hybrid technology integrating renewable energies and fuel cell as one energy source High availability Robust Silent Installation foot print Fast installation Limited maintenance

CASSIDIAN and AEG Power solutions provide key power electronic products AUTONOMOUS AND RELIABLE ENERGY STATION The goal of this project is to improve the reliability, the autonomy, and TCO of an autonomous energy system with a new hybrid architecture. The combination of the both Wind and Solar independent power sources with Lithium batteries and the use of fuels cells provides reliable energy to power base station telecom equipment. This technology is matured and has many benefits compared to classical systems solutions using Diesel Generators, such as higher fuel cell efficiency, reliable startup , extended batteries life and compactness, silent operation. The demonstrator provides an overview of the settings, benefits, energy storage and the state of the technology for each component, and their association to built the system. The key components of the autonomous energy system in this demonstrator are : the PV array, the wind turbine , the fuel cell, the lithium batteries, the global controller, with remote communication

How it works?

Alternatives for Powering Telecommunications Base Stations

PV panels and Wind Turbine are interfaced to the 48VDC bus through isolated dc/dc converters (PVi1600HD) associated in parallel with MPPT functionality. This solution utilizes the Solar and Wind power when available to power the telecom equipment at the site. It also keep the batteries in floating and the extra power is used to feed the ElectraGen system (Full Cell). From sunset until sunrise the load is powered by the Lithium batteries, and thus the batteries are in discharge mode. If needed, at a specified DOD, the ElectraGen (Full Cell) starts, supplying the load and charging the batteries. At a DOD above 95% the ElectraGen (Full Cell) stops. All the integrated components of the power system are monitored by an unique controller ACMi1000e, which controls all energy production and transfer, but also the battery management. Main operation Modes and energy priorities : Solar and Wind Power are configured as the primary power source Lithium batteries is configured as the secondary power source ElectraGen (Full Cell) is configured as the third power source
