After training your team you would facilitate the making of soup, drinks and picking up bread from a bakery in Newark. Gathering your team for prayer, you will lead them in the famous These things we do, So that others may Live cheer before loading up your team on one of the two Relief Buses. You would then drive them into a carefully selected New York City or New Jersey location while leading them in prayer and worship until you park The Relief Bus for outreach. Some volunteers may meet you at the location where you will then do an on the spot training of rules, safety and why we do what we do. One of your goals is to facilitate and supervise outreach by successfully delegating the food and clothing distribution, relationship building and prayer on the sidewalks and helping to move the team into different serving responsibilities so they can get the full experience. During the outreach, homeless and poverty stricken people will need to meet with you as the Outreach Team Leader to get connected to resources such as shelter, job info, detox, rehab, and more as well as to advise and pray for their needs. You will be responsible for interviewing them and writing referrals. When the outreach is wrapping up at 1:30pm you will direct clean up tasks with the

volunteers and then drive back to The Relief Base to serve alongside your team with cleanup. Finally at the end of the outreach you will direct a session of debriefing the team, answering questions and letting them share their experience with the group to conclude their outreach. Some of our outreaches take place in the evenings. On those days you would start the day in the afternoon and conclude later in the evening. Community Community is at the heart of our staff, who consider each other as family. We all participate each Tuesday morning for a time of worship, prayer, discipleship, training and business meetings. They are key times of community building, deepening of relationships and accountability that create a culture of interdependence and encouragement. The theme for our community is Fighting for each others hearts. Our key verse for this is Hebrews 10:24,25: And let us consider and give attentive, continuous care to watching over one another, studying how we may stir up (stimulate and incite) to love and helpful deeds and noble activities, Not forsaking or neglecting to assemble together [as believers], as is the habit of some people, but admonishing (warning, urging, and encouraging) one another, and all the more faithfully as you see the day approaching. Urban Missionary Fundraising or Friend Raising All team members raise their own support to work at New York City Relief as urban missionaries. Prior to coming on staff, new candidates create a target budget with the help of our excellent leadership team. We will pay for you to attend one of the top missionary fundraising training seminars in America by flying you there and putting you up in a nice hotel for your two-day training with The Center For Mission Mobilization: (www.mobilization.org/). After your completion of the training, you would be expected to implement your new fundraising strategies. New York City Relief provides a staff person to serve as a coach and support to you during that period. After raising 80% of your target budget, you would then come on board officially as Associate Staff. You would raise the remaining 20% while serving on staff in your respective position. This has been used successfully with all of our new staff. We have staff who have families of six to support as well as a single person and everything in between. New York City Relief Volunteer Trainer/Coordinator Job Description We are looking for a proven leader who is confident in public speaking/teaching/preaching and/or training. Applicant needs to have computer skills, be administratively gifted and have vision for overseeing coordination of volunteers serving on The Relief Bus outreach. A hard working motivated team player with a fantastic attitude is a must. Key responsibilities for this full-time position include the training of teams concerning urban missions and ministry to the poor and periodically participating with teams in outreach to the homeless. Other responsibilities involve booking teams to stay at our urban missions base, The Relief Base as well as coordinating logistics for teams such as meals, outreach schedule, building accommodations.

Volunteer Trainer/Coordinator Duties When teams stay at The Relief Base you would provide urban missions training using our curriculum to inspire and disciple them in anticipation of their daily outreaches. Debriefing teams experiences and leading times of prayer and worship is also important. You will help lead and facilitate a life-changing experience in the lives of the volunteers. Typically their one-week stays with us are part retreat and part mission trip. As they encounter the poor and homeless for the first time, worldviews are shifted and new vision is shaped. Volunteers return home as different people and carry their experiences back with them to further transform their own communities. This role is crucial in that the better job we can do training volunteers, the more prepared they are to do a good job ministering on the streets with The Relief Bus. The better job they do, the more lives we see changed: more people prayed for, more people led to Christ, more people connected to detox/rehab to be freed from addiction, more people provided food, clothing and shelter.

Your typical administrative duties would include fielding emails and phone calls from the many churches and individuals interested in volunteering on The Relief Bus. Promptly responding to inquiries and impressing on them how much we appreciate them is essential. Emailing vital information to teams is important to insure that they are adequately prepared for their volunteer experience. Regular duties include updating the volunteer calendar and communicating with the outreach team. Community Community is at the heart of our staff, who consider each other as family.
