1. Proposal Introduction
Hua Ho Department Store is established in 1970. It is a large supermarket that sells various kinds of goods, such as food, live products, groceries, toys and so on. Hua Ho has opened several supermarkets in different locations. They are in Tanjung Bunut, Yayasan, Kiulap, and Jalan Muara. Each branch has two storey building. In order to manage those four big supermarkets, the person who is in charge those supermarkets needs to set up a network to communicate with each other closely. The main branch is at Kiulap.

Current system
The manager of Hua Ho needs to record every goods by computer. The information of the products will be notified from the main office to every branch of Hua Ho through networking. The current system network used ADSL modem, router, MAU, printers, workstations that connected together by using Ring topology. And the current system network is using fiber optic cables. Unfortunately, the current network is not function very well. It has created many problems.

Ring It is a network. The shape of the network is a circle or ring, with nodes connected around the ring. Router It is a physical device that can access to the internet, email and other devices. And it supports frames formatted on one network to reach a different network in a format, such as transfer IP address to other devices. Thus, the other network and devices can be easy to understand. Printer It will received data from a computer or other computer within one network. WorkstationIt is a high-end microcomputer. IP address It stands for Internet Protocol address that is each device such as computer, printer, will have assigned numerical label. The communication of participating device in a computer network uses the Internet Protocol. ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) It is a Internet access service with high-speed. The sending and receiving of the sevice has to depend on existing copper telephones lines with the help of an ADSL modem. SubnetIt is a subdivision of an IP network. IP network is a set of communication protocols used for the internet and other similar networks. Internet The internet is a global data communication system. Fiber Optic CableIt is used on a network backbone for high-speed communications. Working on this network: With this network design, the new information released by the main office will be received by every branch through internet. Meanwhile, the POS and the transaction report for every branch will be sent back to main office for further analysis. After analysis, main office will send new order to each branch.

Current system existing problems

Since Hua Ho Department Store has used the current system for a long time, some problems have been realized. To spend a lot of money on Fiber Optic cables. Fiber Optic cable is more expensive. And It is not susceptible at all to the electromagnetic interference. Don't have any server. It is not convenient. Because of numerous items data, sometimes they would be lost or ignored. Everything needs to rely on main branch. Using Ring Topology, it exists problems. (1)When node1 transmits data to node 4, node 1 needs to pass to node2, node3 then arrived at node4. Therefore, the transmitted data has been slow down by using the Ring Topology. At the same time, if node2 or node3 has problem, the data cannot be transmitted properly. (2)When a company wants to add a new computer, all computers need to turn off. In order to work properly, all the computers need to turn on. It has made the work place becomes very inconvenient.

Proposed system
In order to improve the current system of Hua Ho Department Store, the manager of Hua Ho is planning to design a new network system. The proposed system network is going to use ADSL modem, wireless router, wireless printers, and workstations devices that connected together by using wireless topology. And the network is using UTP cables to connect Modem and Router and to connect each server. The proposed system is trying to use less and less cables. Hua Ho Department Store is going to provide file sever in each branch. Planning diagram on below:

The new network updates some devices: Wireless router It is a wireless local area network device that establishes the point of the next network which a data packet should be forwarded to its destination. File serverIt is a computer that offers multi-user access through a single network by making network utilities, software applications and data files available to other network. Wireless printer A wireless printer is a network device which receive data through network. UTP It stands for Unshielded Twisted-Pair Cable. UTP joins many home and many business computers to the telephone company with copper wire.

Objective
Using new system, Hua Ho Department Store will be developed better than before. New system has some advantages. Provide mobility function. Hua Ho Department Store will offer free WiFi access. Customers can enjoy shopping inside and surfing internet outside to rest. Provide fast setup. The computers of Hua Ho Department Store have wireless adapters, locating the wireless network. Therefore, they can be simply clicking Connect to a Network. Save some costs. Using a wireless network is cheaper than buying and installing cables. And UTP cable is cheaper than Fiber Optic cable. Provide expandability. When they want to add new computers to a wireless network is the easiest only if they do not exceed the maximum number of devices. Provide file server. It is easy to control data or information for all items. Therefore, new network is good for Hua Ho Department Store.

2. Network Architecture
2.1 Topology and Diagram Hua Ho department store has four branches. Each branch has two storeys. Each branch has used Local Area Network (LAN). The current system of Hua Ho is using Ring topology to link workstations, printer and router. Ring Topology: A Ring Topology is network. The shape of the network is a circle or ring, with nodes connected around the ring. It transmits data by passing a token around the network so that it can prevent the collision of data between two computers that they send data simultaneously. Advantages of Ring Topology: It is easy to manage. It is easy to locate node and cable problems It is good to let signal go far It handles high-volume traffic well It is very reliable Disadvantages of Ring Topology: It requires many network cables and equipments at the star It does not have many equipment options If one computer fails, the entire network goes down.

Hua Ho department store is going to improve the current system by using wireless topology as proposed system. Wireless Topology: Wireless topology is using radio signal frequency to communicate among computers and other network devices. It is a network architecture which employs wireless devices. Advantages of wireless Topology: It is easy to setup feature It does not need to use cables to connect Its installation is inexpensive It is easy to manage once some nodes down. Disadvantages of wireless Topology: When it sent data over the network, the signals are not secure. When other electrical devices are using the same spectrum of radio signals, it will cause interference to a wireless network

3. Communication Links
3.1 Detailed description of communication links Hua Ho department store is going to use Huawei ADSL Modem to connect Internet. ADSL modem is used to provide high data rates over standard telephone twisted pair cables. And data carried by the ADSL are typically routed over the telephone companys data network and eventually reach a conventional Internet Protocol (IP) network. ADSL connects Wireless router by using UTP cable. Wireless router sends data packets across network by radio signal frequency. So, all the workstations with the right IP address can receive data. Two storey is about to communicate together by using wireless radio frequency signal. And Hua Ho department store will use UTP cable to connect file sever in each branch.

(i) The current system of Hua Ho Department Store is using Fiber optic cable to connect devices in each LAN. Define of Fiber optic cable Fiber optic cable is made of one or more glass or plastic fiber cores inside a protective cladding material and covered by PVC (permanent virtual circuit) outer jacket that transmitted data in a form of light from one point of the cable to another point. The transmitted data can be read by a computer. Fiber optic cable has two types: Single-mode cable and Multi-mode cable. In current system, Hua Ho department store used single-mode cable. Advantage of Fiber optic cable 1. Not susceptible at all to the electromagnetic interference 2. Highly secure 3. Extremely fast Disadvantage of Fiber optic cable 1. It is very expensive and difficult to install. 2. Glass fiber-optic cables are harder to fix. 3. The broken fiber optic cables need to be completely replaced. It is very expensive.

(ii) The proposed system of Hua Ho Department store is using UTP to connect devices and radio signal frequency for wireless topology. Radio signal technologies 1. Radio signal is transmitted in one or multiple directions 2. It can save money 3. It is used to short-range line-of-sight transmissions 4. It is useful in situations Define of UTP and radio signal frequency UTP stands for unshielded twisted-pair. UTP is consisted of pairs of insulated copper wires twisted that no shielding material together and covered with an outer insulating jacket. It is most frequently used network cabling. When it is using RJ-11 connectors, it is telephone cabling. When it is using RJ-45 connectors, it is used to network. In this network, the manager of Hua Ho supermarket is going to use straight cable and TIA/EIA 568A writing. Advantage of UTP cable 1. Low cost 2. Easy to install Disadvantage of UTP cable 1. It is susceptible to radio frequency interference (RFI) and electromagnetic interference (EMI). 2. The signal goes shorter. So it makes less able to carry the signal for long-distance networking.

4. Networking and Internetworking Devices

Detailed description of all the devices and purpose of the devices 1. Workstation Workstation is a very faster and have more capable than a personal computer. It is for individual use. It is best for professional and business use. Workstation is used to operate low level computing on multiple screens and perform design tasks. DELL Precision T3500 workstation is going to use in this proposed network.

2. Wireless Printer Printer is an output device. It is commanded by the output from a computer and transfers text and graphic to paper. Brother-MFC-J415w Wireless All-In-One Printer provides 4-in-1 function. Those functions are print, copy, fax, scan documents or photos. The most important is it also provides built-In wireless networking.

3. Wireless router It is a network device that performs the function of router. Linksys WRT54G is going to use for this proposed network. Linksys WRT54G is a Wi-Fi capable residential gateway from Linksys. The device is supported to share Internet connections among several computers via 802.3 Ethernet and 802.1 1b/g wireless data links.

4. ADSL Modem ADSL Modem is used for connecting to the internet. More data can be sent over existing copper telephone lines at rates up to 8Mbps. E-speed ADSL modem, which is supplied by TelBru in Brunei, is going to use in this proposed network. It provides greatly diagnosis functions and remote management functions. It can decrease the operation expenditure (OPEX). It contains upgrade and service provisioning procedure automatically. Therefore, it has very good facility for deployment of customer services.

6. File server File server is easy for other computers users to access files that have been store in the file server. The main purpose of the file server is for users to share information over the network. IBM eServer xSeries 235 Server is going to use in this proposed network.

7. NIC (Network Interface Card) A network interface card is an adapter card that enables a workstation, file server, printer, or other device to connect to a network and communicate with other network nodes. It is used to translate IP address to PC card.

5. Network Security
Detailed description and purpose of security devices Network security takes important part in networking because it is used to prevent and monitor unauthorized access, misuse, modification, no accept computer network or network-accessible resources. Network security also uses to protect data so that data is not easily intruded by hackers. Hua Ho Department Store is belong to a medium department store. There are some functions need to be improved in network security. Those functions and security measures are: 1. Username and password Username is unique and password can be the same over the network. Administrator makes password complexly so that it can be prevented people who are not included the network to access resources. 2. Firewall Firewall is a set of related programs. It located at a network gateway server. It is used to examine if resources access or not. 3. Anti-virus software Anti-virus software is used to detect virus hidden. 4. Anomaly-based intrusion detection system Anomaly-based intrusion detection system is used to monitor network and traffic for unexpected behavior and other anomalies to protect resources 5. Use an optional network analyzer or network monitor 6. Raise awareness about physical security to employees.
