LESSON OBSERVATION FORM (Day 1: Observing English Language Classes)

1) Focus of Observation: Observation Notes

Observation on classroom skills for the teacher such as classroom instructional language and questioning. The teacher for that class is Pn. Hanizah and she taught about the topic part of humans body. Resource: textbook She uses just a simple instructional language in her class such as what day is today, do you understand and many more. She delivered her lesson by calling one student and uses him or her as a model. She asks all the students in the class the question about the model in front and if the students cannot answer it, she will give some clue according to the situation.

2) Analysis of Observation

Based on my first day of observation, I can see that the teacher of that class, which is Pn. Hanizah just a simple language in giving her instruction such as how are you today, do you understand and so many more. In my opinion, the way she uses her instructional language suitable with the level of the students which is standard 1. The question techniques that been used by her also simple and suitable with the level of the students. For example, when the teacher wants to explain to the students about the part of humans body, she use one student as a model and show to the students which part she want to introduce. If she wants to introduce about hands, then she will hold the models hand and ask all the students what part of humans body it is. The teacher also encourages the students to communicate by giving them chance to answer the question. She did not give the answer directly to the students, but give they chance to give their answer and after that, she will discuss with the students which answer is correct. If all the students cannot answer the question, she will give them some clue so that the students can get the answer on their own. By using this method of teaching, the teacher had encouraged the confident level of the students and the students become more communicative with the teacher.

LESSON OBSERVATION FORM (Day 2: Observing For Teacher and Learner Roles)

Focus of Observation: 1) Observation Notes Teachers and learners role Teachers role As a class controller Facilitator Questioner

Learners role Listener Active participant

2) Analysis of Observation On the second day of my observation, I had to observe about teachers role and learners role. What I can see from my observation is the teacher for that day which is Pn. Agnes, apply students centered in her class. In this method, it will required a lot of comitment from the students and based on what I see, she had succesfully doing that. For the teachers role, the teacher totally act as a guidance or facilitator of t he students. She gave them some worksheet to do and she moved around to guide the students and take a look if there any student cannot answer the question. Then, she will guide the student not by giving the answer directly, but just a few clue and explanation so that the student will understand the concept. She also act as a questioner when she ask all of the students about the part of humans body. In the process of delivered the question, she gave an example of the first question to encourage students to answer next question. Then, she ask the students one by one and will discuss the right answer with the students. She also correct the mistakes that been made by the students. For the learners role, they act as an active participants in the class. When the teacher asks them the question, they will put up their hands to answer the question. Mostly the students in the class was an active participant. They also act as a listener when they listen to the teachers explanation about humans part of body. They als o gave fully attention by listening to teachers explanation. Then, I can said that the method that been used by the teacher effectively captured students interest. All of this because the students will get teachers attention if the students answered the question whether it was right or wrong answer.

LESSON OBSERVATION FORM (Day 3: Observing Classroom Management)

Focus of Observation: 1) Observation Notes Classroom management Beginning of the lesson Students enter the classroom properly and sit on their own places Gain pupils attention by introduce an interesting induction set Resource: Using wotkbook and make sure all the students have it The teacher move around the class to monitor students work The teacher asks the students who work more quickly to answer next question on the next page. The teacher praise the students individually for those can answer the question correctly. End of the lesson The teacher disccus the answer of the question with the all of the students. The teacher gave right answer and correct the mistakes of the students. The teacher sum up the lesson.

During the lesson -

Inappropriate behaviour The students at the back did not give attention at the front Playing the eraser at the back.

2) Analysis of Observation For this time, I need to observe on classroom management. From what I understand, classroom management is how the teacher control the class and can make sure the students got the lesson effectively. On that day, the students entered the classroom properly and then sit on their own places. The teacher for that day which is Pn. Hanizah attract students attention by using an interesting induction set. She start the class with a song. The song is about humans part of body. She also asks the students to follow her in singing the song and the students really enjoy with it. After she had finished with that part, she ask the students to take out their workbooks. During the lesson, the students were not allowed to move around and just sit on their own place. But, there are still some students that moved onto their friends desk. When the teacher moved around to monitor the students work, the students quickly will turn back to their own place. When monitoring students work, the students will ask her individually if there any question that they cannot understand. For those students who can answer the question quickly, the tecaher will ask them to answer the question on the next page so that the students will not doing anything else if they had done with their works. She also praise the students individually if they can answer the questions correctly. At the end of the lesson, she will discuss the answer randomly with all of the students. She will correct the mistakes that students had done and give the right answer. After finished with it, finally the teacher will sum up the lesson by mentioning back all of humans part of body. From what I can see, eventhough the teacher delivered her lesson very interesting, there are still a few students played at the back and did not gave full attention on the lesson. So I think that the way the teacher can use to overcome this problems by asking the students at the back to sit in front, exchange with the students in front.

LESSON OBSERVATION FORM (Day 4: Techniques in Teaching Language Skills)

Focus of Observation: 1) Observation Notes Observed on teachers techniques in teaching language skills Students repeat teachers sentences More on listening and reading skills Ask the students to read the sentences in the workbook. Her lesson focused more on grammar Not too much on vocabulary

2) Analysis of Observation For this time of observation, I need to analyze about teachers techniques in teaching language skills. Here, the teacher which is Pn. Agnes has used an expository method which is means an explanation or interpretations. By using this method, the students can understand the concept easily. For this time, I found out that the teacher read the passage in the workbook and ask the students to repeat after him. So, the techniques that she had used are more on listening and reading skills. The students need to listen to their teacher first and the repeat after him while reading the same passage. During the class, I can see that the teacher focus more on grammar for her lesson on that day. She highlighted all the basic in the grammar such as when should we use is, are, was, and were. She wants to make sure that the students did not confuse in using that kind of grammar. She not too focuses on vocabulary and she did not use any new words, just common words for the students.

LESSON OBSERVATION FORM (Day 5: Types of Remedial and Enrichment Activities)

Focus of Observation: 1) Observation Notes Comparison Based on mastery learning Evaluate students understanding Contrast -

Remedial activities Simple More on the concept of the lesson Suitable for weak students

Enrichment activities More difficult and challenging Suitable for average and good students

2) Analysis of Observation For the last day, I had to collect samples of remedial and enrichment activitites. After I had collect all of the worksheets, I need to study and evaluate the samples. From what I can get, the comparison between remedial and enrichment activities is both activities based on mastery learning. The purpose of both activities also to evaluate students understanding of the topics. The contrast between the remedial activities and enrichment activities are remedial activities more on the concept of the lesson. The question also quite simple and straight forward. This kind of activities suitable for weak students. Meanwhile for enrichment activities, the question quite difficult and more challenging. This kind of activities suitable for average and good students. The level of enrichment activities also will increase according to students level.
