1. If tan α and tan β are the two roots of the quadratic equation x 2 + 6 x − 3 = 0 , without
evaluating α and β, find the values of
(a) tan (α + β) and (b) tan 2α + tan 2β. (5 marks)

3. Prove that 2 cos A cos B cos( A + B ) − cos 2 ( A + B ) = cos 2 A − sin 2 B . (5 marks)
