About StudyWorld 2012
StudyWorld 2012, the 7th Internaonal Fair for Higher and Connuing Educaon, took place from May 11 - 12, 2012. The
two-day event welcomed 7,876 visitors to Berlins Russisches Haus der Wissenscha und Kultur, where they took advantage
of the opportunity to gather informaon about Bachelors and Masters courses around the world as well as internaonal
internship programmes.
This year, 170 universies and providers of connuing educaon from 27 countries presented their programmes and
services. For exhibitors and trade visitors, StudyWorld proved to be a lively se ng for internaonal networking.
The exhibion was organised by ICWE GmbH in cooperaon with the German Federal Ministry for Educaon and Research
(BMBF) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). It took place under the patronage of Prof Dr Annee Schavan,
Federal Minister of Educaon and Research, Germany, as well as Prof Dr Margret Wintermantel, President of the German
Academic Exchange Service.
StudyWorld 2012 welcomed a total of 7,876 visitors.
Aendees comprised 44.8% secondary school students,
most of them in their nal year. 35.5% of aendees
were university students. Addionally, a growing number
of educaonal experts (6.9%) and other professionals
interested in connuing educaon (9.3%) aended the
exhibion in 2012.
The age stascs show that StudyWorld mostly aracts
young people. Almost half of the visitors (45.8%) were aged
between 16 - 19 years, while 37.3% were between 20 and
25. Around 60% of aendees came from Berlin while over
a third came from all over Germany.

Visitor Prole
The most popular locaons for studying were the USA, followed by the United Kingdom and Canada. The list of most
popular desnaons for internships was topped by Germany, followed by the United States, Australia and New Zealand.
When asked about their reasons for aending the event, most visitors said they were looking for specic informaon on
degrees and higher educaon programmes (55.6 %) and came well-prepared to the exhibion. To get a general overview
was another important aim for many visitors (52.2 %).
Visitors were frequently described by the exhibitors as highly movated and eager to nd out more about their career and
studying opportunies worldwide.

Visitors were interested in Bachelors and Masters degree programmes in Germany (Bachelors 38.7 %; Masters 26.8 %).
Even more visitors wanted to nd out more about programmes abroad (48.0 % Bachelors and 38.9 %), as well as internships
abroad (36.3 %). There was also a strong interest in advice on funding and admissions.

In 2012, 170 exhibitors from 27 countries took advantage of
Germanys only exhibion to focus on higher and connuing
educaon worldwide to present their products and
services. Among them were higher educaon instuons,
scholarship providers, higher educaon consulng services,
instuons oering connuing educaon as well as
internship placement and exchange organisaons.
Alongside 62 instuons from Germany, exhibitors from the
following countries were represented at the exhibion:
Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Cyprus, Denmark,
Finland, France, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Japan, Latvia,
Lithuania, New Zealand, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland,
Republic of Korea, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey,
United Kingdom and the USA.

The seminar programme comprised 50 presentaons and
provided extensive informaon on internships, educaon
and careers.
The presentaons on internships abroad, as well as speeches
on topics relang to study abroad, e.g. nancing and
applicaon, were parcularly popular among visitors.
Some presentaons described study opons and internships,
e.g. in Australia, Great Britain, Finland, France, Turkey and the
USA.
This years guest of honour was Russia. Over 30 educaonal
instuons presented their course and research
programmes at the Educaon, Science and Innovaons in
Russia stand.
Innovave projects and work in focus areas of the Russian
Federaons scienc, technological and technical
development were exhibited, while universies such as
those from Moscow, St. Petersburg and Tomsk presented
their services.
On Friday, May 11, the Russian Ambassador in Germany, His
Excellency Vladimir M. Grinin, visited StudyWorld and the
Russian exhibion booths.

StudyWorld 2012 was once again covered extensively
by local and naonal newspapers, magazines and radio
staons as well as online media. One of Germanys leading
daily newspapers, Der Tagesspiegel, presented a special
feature about StudyWorld and this years guest of honour
prior to the event. Once again, the naonal radio staon
Deutschlandfunk broadcasted live from StudyWorld on
both days of the exhibion, interviewing experts and
students for their weekly radio shows Campus und Karriere
and Pisa plus.

Symposium
The 6th Symposium on the Internaonal Mobility of
German Students, go out! studieren weltweit, took place
in the run-up to StudyWorld on May 10 - 11, 2012. The
event was organised by the Federal Ministry of Educaon
and Research (BMBF) and the German Academic Exchange
Service (DAAD) in co-operaon with ICWE GmbH.
The Symposium themes were directly linked to the topics
covered by the exhibion and the programme featured
presentaons of Study Abroad Concepts for University
Students and Graduates.
Studying in Russia was the focus of the second day of the
Symposium. Parcipants included university sta working
in the elds of administraon, internaonal exchange and
public relaons, representaves from dierent facules
and instutes, as well as exhibitors from StudyWorld 2012.
