WATER INTAKE PIPELINE FOR AL- ARISH CORAL BEACH RESORT ANTI - FOULING SYSTEM

Client: EMAC Company For Contracting

Location: Al - Arish city (450 km Eastern Cairo) North Sinai Governorate - Egypt.

Contract Value: US $ 290.000.-Project Duration: 5/1999 11/1999 Project Data: Intake pipeline

= 1.5 m, Q = 506 m3/hr

Project Description: Design, supply and installation for Anti-Fouling system using one rectifier unit 40V, 30A and one head unit consisting of no. 15 copper anodes each weighing 30 kgs and no. 15 aluminum anodes each weighting 5.5 kgs. This system is capable to avoid the fouling phenomena inside pipeline. The anode units are constructed on the intake and connect the copper and aluminum to the positive side of the rectifier unit and the negative side is connected to pipeline. Quantity of water passing inside pipeline starting from the head units. The system discharges cupric ions into the water, which prevents settlement of organisms and the development of fouling. Additionally, the dissolved aluminum forms a hydroxide floc, which is carried through the system. Aluminum ions are incorporated into the surface films, modifying them into a stable and protective form, thus mitigating the corrosion process in ferrous seawater systems.
