Standard Nodes M12/Materials/Finishes

Standard M12 Node
For the design and assembly of all regular modules and standardized space-frames only
standard nodes are needed. This standard node is also used for the various connection
angles of Frame Girders. Only few exceptions need special Nodes.
Each Node has 18 tap holes, angles between tap hole faces 45, 60, 90,120,135, 180.
Face to face diameter of 46mm. Made of steel or aluminum, steel Nodes are chromeplated or powder coated and aluminum Nodes are powder coated, anodized, or
chromed.
Colors may vary slightly.
Special colors available on request.

Node Geometry
The MERO node is derived from the cube. It
has 26 faces, i.e. 8 equilateral triangles and 18
squares.
However, for practical and economical reasons
the node is actually made from a ball-shaped
blank with rounded off corners, thus giving 18
circular cutting planes.
These alone are important for practical
application. The circular planes are at a uniform
distance to the centre of the ball. In the middle
of each there is a tap hole size M12. The axes of
all tap holes intersect in the centre of the node.
Depending on the position of the cutting planes
angles of 45, 60, 90, 120, 135 and 180 will
result.

half node can be positioned more easily and provides a safe an
simple assembly of the spaceframe. A gap-free cladding of the
M12 structure is possible since node surface and tube form a
plane.

Node M12, Milan 49,5/46 M12 ST

With 14 tap holes. A diagonal tap hole row with flat angles
creates the flat version of the half-octahedron space-frame type
Milan. The two diagonal tap hole rows are turned at 45 to
each other in order to allow the connection of space diagonal
and surface diagonal on one node (as mast node). The use of a
surface diagonal in the horizontal position is not possible.

With 18 tap holes. Referring to the vertical main axis the two
opposite diagonal tap hole rows (4 tap holes) are rotated by 45.
This node is necessary if surface diagonals and space diagonals
have to be connected to one node.

Please note: When dismantling the structure, one of the connecting pieces must be fixed horizontally with a grub screw
(supplied), before the vertical tubes are loosened.

Tubes 22M12, Materials and Finishes

Tubes 22M12, 22 mm tube diameter with M12 bolt. Materials: steel
and aluminium.
All steel tubes will be supplied chromed or powder coated.
All aluminium tubes will be supplied powder coated or mat anodized
in E6/EV1 aluminum.
L1 System size
The length of the MERO tubes grows in a geometric progression by

the factor 2. It is described as system dimension L1 and is measured
from node axis to node axis. By adding the same tube lengths, an
exact module dimension is achieved. The next largest tube length is
always equal to the length of the side opposite the right angle of the
preceding right-angled triangle in a row of right-angled triangles.

By means of the asymmetric groove profile the accurately cut panel can be subsequently
pressed into the module of frameworks consisting of 22 mm or 30 mm diameter.
a) The panel is basically loaded on one side only, from that side of the panel on which the
solid part of the profile is lying. If the panel is inserted
horizontally, the solid part of the profile is always on top
b) Insertion in structures 22 M12: Minimum angle between 2 panels 90.
The groove profile is stuck in with cold glue. Width of groove B: for solid wood = 3.0 mm,

Standard Sizes for Each Dome Type.

Complete hemispheres are supplied as standard. Additionnally, a ring segment
(= dome segment) can be supplied for each dome, which increases the overall
height. This is of advantage for the standing height at the edges of the dome,
especially in the case of smaller models.
Geometry
The basic geometric shape from which the M12 light weight domes are
generated, is the icosahedron (20 faces and 12 vertecies). By dividing each face
of the icosahedron (i.e. two, four, six and eight times) with additional tubes and
nodes, the curved network geometry of the M12 light weight dome results.

spherical diameters.
All dimensions are standard dimensions measured from node axis to node axis.

With readily available panel materials and the M12 attachment hard ware. With

such as cladding panels, M12-fabric cladding, supports and bottom plates can
be delivered on request.
