Transportation in Lahore is very efficient, making Lahore one of the most easily
accessible cities in Pakistan. Apart from the Grand Trunk road that connects Lahore to
Islamabad, the Pakistan government has introduced a number of other under passes and
linking roads to avoid the usual traffic congestion. This can be evidently proven from the
recent records that show Lahore as having the highest number of underway passages.
The very reliable transportation in Lahore connects the city to other parts of the country
by means of railway, air and bus. Besides, Rickshaws and taxis have proved to be the
most widely accessed means of transportation in Lahore. The railway headquarters of
Pakistan is seated in Lahore and there's no doubt to the fact that railways serve as the
most vital means of connecting different cities of Pakistan and bringing a large number of
tourists from all corners of the country. People in Pakistan generally make use of the
Lahore central railway station to carry out their business, education, and sight seeing
programs.
Air travel in Lahore has also gained substantial significance and the government of
Pakistan has recently constructed an entirely new airport in Lahore named as the Allam
Iqbal International Airport. This new airport is served by a number of airlines including
the national carrier, Pakistan International Airlines. This extended airport facility has
facilitated the influx of a large crowd of Pilgrims traveling to Saudi Arabia for
performing the auspicious Hajj.
However, the road transportation in Lahore is known to be the most treacherous in the
country after Karachi. This is essentially because the number of vehicles in Lahore that
surpasses the capacity of the roads to withhold them. Moreover, the road pathways are
extremely unorganized making it difficult for people to access the tourist destinations or
even their work shops on time. Although, government has been making earnest efforts to
improve the road transportation in Lahore, there is an urgent need to take copious
measures for reconstructing and improving the infrastructure in Pakistan. This and this
alone can help lessen the frequent accidental instances of transportation in Lahore.
Of late, the ministry of transportation has taken steps to a mass transit system within the
city and also to increase the frequency and speed of railway trains running between
Lahore and Rawalpindi. Lahore's transportation, though on a point of development, has
incessantly proved its objectives of providing the passengers with a comfortable and safe
journey and it is essentially for this reason that the economy of Pakistan depends to a
considerable extent, on the transportation of Lahore.
The Daewoo Bus Service is one of the better bus service connecting cities such as
Islamabad Lahore also features several decorated buses. These are crowded, and men and
women have to sit separately.
