Learning Outcomes Learners will increase their understanding and appreciation for a variety of musical genres, as well as building working relationships with fellow students.

Assignment Performance Project Each week you will be introduced to a particular genre of music that we will be focusing on that week. There will be a class discussion on it first thing in the morning, going into the specifics of the style and listening to some examples. You will then break off into instrumental groups for a more specific look at how you would approach the music from an individual point of view. Following this you will be put into band groups and given a choice of 3 songs from the style to rehearse and perform. Once you have sufficiently rehearsed the song you will perform it in front of your peers and receive feedback on the success of the performance. You will have two 1.5 hr rehearsals. You WILL be expected to perform the song after just 1 day, promoting your ability to work collaboratively under pressure. Your performances will be recorded and, if necessary may be used toward you performance module later in the year. Research Project Alongside your performance project, you will also be required to complete a small research project on inspiration. You will work individually in the Mac Suites researching an artist/band/musician who inspires you as an aspiring musician. There will be 2 parts to this; 1. A short essay researching your subject of inspiration and why it inspires you. 2. A Powerpoint presentation outlining your findings from the research task, which will be delivered to the whole class.
