August Ward Update


Longthornton has had a mixed month. Due to the summer holidays and bank holiday weekend we have had a spike in burglaries experiencing 11 during August. On a positive note, whilst on patrol PC Steve Burke identified two suspects of a burglary who have now been arrested and dealt with. dents of Longthornton and helping to tackle crime within the ward. An incident took place in Sutton whereby an 82-yearold female shopper was tricked in withdrawing 2,000 from her bank by a distressed foreign woman who wanted to claim a winning lottery ticket. The victim had just finished shopping in a store on Wednesday 4th September at 15.00hrs when she was approached by a woman, who was crying. The woman, who only spoke in broken English, said she needed help to find a certain firm of solicitors so she could cash a 3,000 winning lottery ticket and travel to visit her father who was very ill. and pick up her passport to claim the money back. During the journey, the female got out saying she felt ill and needed the toilet. The male then asked for a further 50 from the victim to purchase some securities from the bank. He then got out of the vehicle. Neither were seen again. The victim checked with her bank who knew nothing about any such securities. The suspects, who both had olive skin, are described as follows: Female - aged 40 approx, short and chubby build and European accent.
