Dear Brother _______, Thank you for contacting the Ellen G. White Estate. Ellen White did sometimes revise things she had written when she reused them in later materials, or when she prepared a new edition. Without spending more time comparing, I couldn't say that she did not remove a 6000-year reference here and there. But even if she did, does this tell us that she changed her view on the matter in her later life? I think that it would be difficult to support this view when we look at the 1-1 edition of one of her major works, The Great Controversy. This was published within four years of her death, yet in three places in its pages she asserts the 6000-year chronology. Here they are: "For six thousand years that mastermind that once was highest among the angels of God has been wholly bent to the work of deception and ruin. And all the depths of satanic skill and subtlety acquired, all the cruelty developed, during these struggles of the ages, will be brought to bear against God's people in the final conflict." GC intro, p. x. "The great controversy between Christ and Satan, that has been carried forward for nearly six thousand years, is soon to close; and the wicked one redoubles his efforts to defeat the work of Christ in man's behalf and to fasten souls in his snares." GC 518. "The spirits deny the deity of Christ and place even the Creator on a level with themselves. Thus under a new disguise the great rebel still carries on his warfare against God, begun in heaven and for nearly six thousand years continued upon the earth." GC 552, 553.

We have a document here called "Ellen G. White Statements Relating to Geology and Earth Sciences." It is about 60 pages long. A part of it is a collection of Mrs. White's statements relating to the age of the earth. This is where I located these three statements, though there are many more collected there from the whole span of her writings. Your email address suggests that you are at Walla Walla College. A professor of mine said that in her later years she removed 6000-year statements from later additions of some of her works.
