ISPAT INDUSTRIES LIMITED( presently known as JSW ISPAT STEEL LTD)

Brief introduction :
Ispat Industries is one of India's leading industrial houses with interest in steel and mining and investments lined up in power and infrastructure. Set up in 1984 as a downstream processing facility for flat steel ,Ispat has grown in blistering pace and today ranks amongst India's top five private sector integrated steel producers in terms of volume and revenues.It set up the single largest mega module DRI plant in 1994 and combining two unique steel making process,the CONARC and CSP to produce a wide variety of quality flat steel products in its Dolvi complex . I joined Ispat in 1995 while the project work for their Blast Furnace unit had just begun .I was one of the team member who had the responsibility of setting up the entire material handling system from Jetty discharge points to Stockyard and further unto final Bunkers at Stock house , Sinter Plant and Lime Calcining Plant .

Major equipments handled :


Belt conveyors ( 81 nos ) of total c/c distance of 15 km-M/S TRF,NAVEEN,FENNER Mobile Stacking Tripper( 4 nos )- M/S TRF (1500 tph iron ore ) Wagon Tippler -M/S L&T (upto manufacturing stage as project got scrapped subsequently ) Truck tilting unit (65T)- Hydraulic operated M/S Carter Associated system such as Dedusting,Belt weighers,Over band magnet ,Sampler,Belt feeder ,Ground Hopper ,Vibro feeder,Unbalance motor Vibrator,Scrappers,Rotary screen,Vibrating screen,Clamshell gate,Rack& pinion gate,Prism gate Iron benefecation plant300TPD(Rotary Scrubber,Classifier,Cyclone,Wet screen ,High rate thickener etc ) Jetty related system ( only maintenance part since 2009) - Pipe conveyor ( 650 tph ) - Gantry type Barge unloader ( 550 tph avg x 2nos ) - Leibherr Mobile Harbor Crane ( 650 tph ) - Exciter type vibro feeder - Equallising hopper- 250 MT Iron Ore

Hands on experience in project execution : from concept to commissioning technical and commercial ( partly ) Coordinating with consultants ( Dasturco,Howe ) for all engineering ( freezing layout,general arrangement drawings , flow diagram,system selection, vendor finalisation ,finalisation of ordering specs , detail engineering and deciding the best of layout,system,equipments for best productivity ) Internal coordination with store,purchase,accounts,safety Tracking progress of all activities such as Manufacturing, Bought-out, despatch clearance , site erection,removing site obstruction,report generation like Cash flow statement, progress review( civil ,structural,mechanical etc ,plug list points ,payment status) Erection ,commissioning,trial ( cold and hot )

[ II ] PLANT MAINTENANCE-MECHANICAL: ( 2000 TILL DATE )


Establishment of maintenance systems for Material Handling Plant Maintenance : Determining the maintenance needs of the plant equipments, formatting structured maintenance plan, generating the supporting schedules for preventive and predictive maintenance, Setting up a predictive & condition monitoring maintenance system in the department and establishing CMMS ( SAP based ) Ensuring that all the preventive & checklists schedules are adhered to strictly. Improving on the availability of all equipments/system Analyzing the data of delays to reduce the repetitive & major delays either by suitable modification or by better maintenance practices. Improve mean time between failures ( MTBF) and reduce mean time to repair ( MTTR ), Design out maintenance Spares planning & control, Focusing on the inventory control & ensuring that the right spare is available at the right time to reduce down time. Controlling the cost- Exercise control on the cost of consumables & reduce the total costs. Take structured initiatives for cost reduction and operational efficiency improvement. Compliance to the statutory regulations with respect to cranes, pressure vessels, Ensuring that safety measures are strictly followed. Assessing the technical training needs & arrange to train people by thoroughly understanding the process (operational/engineering)of the plant and provide direction for efficient maintenance / operation. Acquiring and keeping updated with latest on the technology for existing and related products Provide leadership and control over production,quality,cost by active participation in management initiatives Plant erection, commissioning and trouble shooting experience with an eye for details including technical and engineering details Communication skills written and oral

[ I ] COST BENEFIT PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION

Led a team of engineers for implementing following cost saving projects : ( 1 ) Coke Drying Project for reduction in Coke moisture percentage through a system comprising of Hot air generator , Vibrating type Fluidised bed dryer and Gas cleaning system .The project was implemented in 5 months time against the normal industry standard of 10-12 months ( 2 ) Also implemented a Beneficiation plant for Iron Ore for reduction in Alumina and Silica percentage in ore . The system comprises of Rotary Drum scrubber, Classifiers , Thickener, Cyclones ,etc ( 3 ) A system modification was implemented to achieve following advantages ( a ) raw material received from Jetty could be directly fed to Blast furnace reducing multiple handling ; ( b ) Screen underflow from our DRI plant could be direcly fed to Sinter plant reducing rehandling ( c ) Material received by road could be stacked to a normal height of 9 mtrs through Hydrauliv Truck Tilting Units Presently I am handling a capex project for on-line screening of Ore Fines being fed to Sinter plant which will improve the productivity .

Brief introduction :

TSIL is the first indigenously designed and engineered sponge iron plant in India using an indigenous technology.

Key result areas: PLANT MAINTENANCE ( MECHANICAL ): ( 1986-1995 ) Responsible for Mechanical maintenance of the entire areas of 300 TPD coal based sponge iron plant.
