Our approach to education and training will provide an intense week of preparation that will not be found anywhere else. Seminars and materials are provided in various languages to facilitate attendees needs.

THE CERTIFIED WELDING INSPECTOR (CWI) PROGRAM

If every employee or contractor hired came with an objective stamp of approval, we would never need to worry about deploying someone under-qualified again. By specifying personnel who are AWS-certified, you: Minimize failures and recall. Uniquely increase sales advantages over foreign and domestic competition. Save money on training and testing. Maximize product liability protection. Maintain desired levels of workmanship and quality, while improving productivity and efficiency for your company. Successful exam candidates become AWS certified welding inspectors, joining an elite group, that, worldwide, share a defined level of proficiency. CWIs are entered into the AWS national register of CWIs; receive a wallet card, certificate suitable for framing, and a unique stamp for identification. They are also listed in the AWS inspection trends magazine for industry reference and verification. These days, it takes more than just experience to be successful. It takes proof. With AWS certification, you will never worry about losing your competitive edge, since proof of active practice or reexamination is required at the time of renewal or recertification.
And you will join thousands of welding inspectors who have gone through the program for over 25 years.

The AWS certified welding inspector program is designed for welders, inspectors, technicians, and engineers. Earn the credentials you need for the opportunities you deserve.

SEMINAR AND EXAMINATION CURRICULUM

The AWS-CWI examination consists of three tests Fundamentals, Practicals and Code Book Examination. For candidates scoring 72 % and above, AWS will award the certificate as Certified Welding Inspector. The candidates scoring less than 72 %, but more than 60 % will be issued certificate as Certified Associate Welding Inspector. For scoring less than 60 %, no certificate is issued.

DAY 1 3 : Welding Inspection Technology Workshop Helps prepare you for the CWI/CWE Exam (Part A) The Welding Inspection Technology Workshop is packed with information on nondestructive examination methods applicable to common welding processes. It will assist welding inspectors and welding educators with knowledge of welding and inspection fundamentals useful on the jobsite. In addition, this seminar will prepare examination candidates for Part A (Fundamentals) of the CWI examination. By attending, you can learn: Safe practices. Metal joining and cutting processes. Terminology and weld joint geometry and welding symbols. Documents governing welding inspection and qualification. Metal properties and destructive testing. Metric practices. Welding metallurgy. Evaluation of weld and base metal discontinuities. VT and other NDE methods and symbols.

Day 4: Visual Inspection Workshop

Helps prepare you for the CWI/CWE Exam (Part B) This workshop provides hands -on training in the use of weld measurement tools and plastic weld replicas to determine the sizes of various weld discontinuities. Students will compare what they find to the criteria in a sample codebook to determine the acceptability or rejection criteria of the sample weldments. The workshop also includes a sample practical examination to prepare test candidates for Part B (Practical Applications) of the CWI examination. By attending this workshop, you can learn: Use of inspection tools. How to ensure compliance with the applicable code. Dos and donts of documentation. When a discontinuity is acceptable. When a discontinuity can be rejected. Why visual inspection can be the most effective NDE technique.

Day 5: D1.1 Code Clinic or API 1104 Code Clinic Helps prepare you for the CWI Exam (Part C)

D1.1 CODE CLINIC The eight hours of instruction provide a "road map" through the code, emphasizing the ability to locate important paragraphs, charts and tables quickly, which is crucial to understanding the code when working under stressful deadlines.
In addition to practice questions, a practice exam will be administered, and the instructor will illustrate the use of the code under time constraints, creating deadline pressure similar to the test environment. If you're taking the CWI exam, this clinic has proven to be valuable test preparation. As a leading construction code, D1. 1 is the ideal tool to teach effective code use.

By attending, you can learn: How to correctly interpret specifying documents. Sure-fire methods to avoid common pitfalls with any code. The proper terminology that gets you the right section of the code -- quickly. How to use any code, standard or specification by understanding the core of the problem or question. API 1104 CODE CLINIC This course covers general code provisions, including qualification of welding procedures for welds containing filler metal additions, design and preparation of the joint for production welding, nondestructive testing and acceptance standards, and automatic welding with and without filler metal additions. As in the D1. 1 code clinic, attendees will practice open codebook testing under time constraints

By attending, you can learn: API 1104 testing requirements and acceptance criteria. The proper terminology that gets you to the right section of the code quickly. How to use any code, standard or specification by understanding the core of the problem or question.

DAY 6: CWI EXAMINATIONS The certified welding inspector (CWI) exams are held following the seminars at the same location. Sign-in for applicants begins at 7:30 a.m. with the test supervisor/proctor beginning promptly at 8:00 a.m., unless otherwise notified. A photo id is required of all exam applicants at the time of sign-in. All exam questions are multiple choice, and each part of the exam (administered separately) must be completed in two hours. A description of each part follows: Part A: Fundamentals: closed book test; 150 questions. Part B: Practical: hands-on test; 46 questions; using AWS book of specifications. Part C: Open Code Book: open book test; 46 questions on the code you previously selected.
