Friends of Walgrove Members Meeting September 3, 2013, 6:30pm I. II. Introductions School Update a.

Olivia has been providing regular updates via her blog vs. her monthly newsletter enabling much more timely information. b. Recent updates include a visit from ESC West and our API scores. Walgrove went down a few points, but CA as whole saw a drop which is being attributed to the budget cuts catching up with schools and the effect being felt. LAUSD as a district saw a three point gain. The Walgrove drop is likely to related to some paperwork errors and if the district appeals (on behalf of all schools, not just Walgrove), we expect our scores to go up. An appeal will cost the district $90,000. c. Great start to the school year and first Coffee with the Principal will be September 20th. d. Free Breakfast in the Classroom starts September 26th. Will be for all kids and will be considered part of instruction. There will be flexibility in terms of when exactly it happens (i.e., 5th graders are running in the mornings to get ready for their physical fitness assessments). Teachers are receiving training on the 10th and Olivia will present it to the parents along with samples of the food on the 20th. Teacher Project Assembly Alejandra Biolatto a. The idea is that a teacher will put a project they need done into a box, complete with instructions (on a form), due date (2-week turn around) and samples and parents can come to the Parent Center to do the work. Its an opportunity to build community and allows parents to work separately from the classroom since some parents arent comfortable in the classroom. TBD what hours the Parent Center will be open for this Officer Reports a. Presidents i.
