The statistics above show that as at June 2013, iOS 6 was the worlds most popular mobile operating system, with 93% of Apple customers running their iPhone, iPod or iPad device on the latest operating system available. In contrast, Android Jelly Bean, the latest OS for Android users only had 33% of its customers running their devices on the latest operating system available. 36.5% of Android users still operated their devices on the second newest operating system, Gingerbread.
Apples iOS
New data released by Apple on September 7, 2013, shows that usage of iOS 6 increased by 1% and users of iOS 5 dropped by 1%. The 1% of earlier iOS users remained the same. iOS 5 was the last version that could support the original 2010 First-Generation iPad, the 2009 iPod Touch and 2008 iPhone 3G. The drop in iOS 5 usage suggests that owners of these products have upgraded to newer models that support iOS 6 or have stopped downloading new apps onto

their device. Figures are likely to change again with the release of iOS 7
on September 18. The iPhone 3GS, and the First-Generation iPad cannot support iOS 7 and are no longer being sold by Apple. Devices that fully support iOS 7 include the iPhone 5S, 5C, 5, the Fourth-Generation iPad, the iPad mini and the Fifth-Generation iPod Touch. The iPhone 4S, 4, Third-Generation iPad, and the iPad 2 support iOS 7 with some limitations.
