One disc is attached to the back of this book; its contents are summarized below. Mastercam X5 Home Learning Edition DVD The Mastercam X5 Home Learning Edition is a demo that provides a fully functional* version of Mastercam that can be installed on your home PC. The software must be re-installed after 6 months and expires completely October 31st, 2012. *All Mastercam modules are available; however, there are a few limitations such as no support for C-Hooks and limitations around post processing.

Objectives:
The Student will design a 2-dimensional drawing by:  Creating arcs knowing the diameter and center point.  Create line tangent.  Xform Rotate geometry to complete the part.  Create an arc tangent to two entities. This tutorial takes approximately one hour to complete.

GEOMETRY CREATION

STEP 1:

SETTING UP THE GRAPHIC USER INTERFACE


Before starting the geometry creation we should customize the toolbars to see the toolbars required to create the geometry and machine a 2D part. See Getting started page A-4 for details. Make sure that the Grid is enabled. It will show you where the part origin is. See Getting started page A-6 for further information. The Operations Manager to the left of the screen can be hidden to gain more space in the graphic area for design. From the keyboard, press Alt + O keys simultaneously to hide it. Repeat this command to make it visible again.

CREATE ARCS

CREATE ARCS
In this step you will create the arcs used for the main body of the part.

Step Preview:

2.1 Create arcs


Create Arc. Circle Center Point.

Enter the Diameter of 5.0". [Select position for the center of the arc]: Select the Origin. Figure: 2.1.1

Make sure that when selecting the origin, the visual cue of the cursor changes as shown.

Choose the Apply button to continue.

NOTE: During the geometry creation of this tutorial, if you make a mistake you can undo the
last step using the Undo icon. You can undo as many steps as needed. If you delete or To delete unwanted geometry, select it

undo a step by mistake, just use the Redo icon. first and then press Delete from the keyboard.

Use the Fit icon to fit the drawing to the screen. Enter a Diameter value of 4.75" and pick the origin for the position of the arc.

Choose the Apply button to continue. Enter a Diameter value of 0.375" and choose the origin for the position of the arc.

Choose the Apply button to continue. Enter a Diameter value of 0.25" and select the Fast Point icon. Enter the coordinate of 0.0, 0.5 and hit Enter on your keyboard. Choose the Apply button to continue. Enter a Diameter value of 0.25" and select the Fast Point icon. Enter the coordinate value of 1.0, 0.0 and hit Enter your keyboard. Choose the Apply button to continue. Enter a Diameter value of 0.25" and select the Fast Point icon. Enter the coordinate value of 0.0, 1.0 and hit Enter your keyboard. Choose the OK button to continue.

2.2Change the line style and create an arc


Left click on the Line Style options in the Status Bar as shown in Figure: 2.2.1. Figure: 2.2.1

Select from the list the hidden line style (2nd style in the list) as shown in Figure: 2.2.2. Figure: 2.2.2

Create Arc. Circle Center Point.

Enter the Diameter of 4.5". [Select position for the center of the arc]: Select the Origin. Choose the OK button to continue.

STEP 3:

CREATE TANGENT LINES


In this step you will learn how to create tangent lines knowing the angle of the lines.

Step Preview:

Create Line. Endpoint. In the Ribbon Bar ensure the Tangent option is on and Vertical or Horizontal is not enabled.

Select the Zoom Window button

and zoom in on the area as shown in Figure: 3.0.1. Figure: 3.0.1

Select the arc as shown in Figure: 3.0.2. Figure: 3.0.2

In the Ribbon bar enter a line Length of 1.5 and an Angle of 39.41/2.

Hit Enter on your keyboard to preview this line. Choose the Apply button to continue making lines. Pick the screen Fit button. Select the Zoom Window button and zoom in on the area as shown in Figure: 3.0.4. Figure: 3.0.4

Sketch a line at any angle to the point as shown in Figure: 3.0.6. Figure: 3.0.6

In the Ribbon bar enter a line Length of 1.5 and an Angle of 14.36/2+90.

Hit Enter to preview this line. Choose the OK button exit the command. Pick the screen Fit button. Your drawing should appear as shown.

In this step you will learn how to Mirror the lines we created in the previous step.

Step Preview:

Xform Mirror. Select the line to mirror it as shown in Figure: 4.0.1. Figure: 4.0.1

Choose the End Selection button.

In the Mirror dialog box ensure Copy is enabled and pick the option to Mirror about X axis as shown in Figure: 4.0.2. Figure: 4.0.2

Pick the Apply button to select the next line to mirror. Select the line to mirror as shown in Figure: 4.0.3. Figure: 4.0.3

In this step you will learn how to create an arc tangent to 3 entities.

Step Preview:

Create Arc. Arc Tangent. Choose the Arc Tangent 3 Entities button in the Ribbon bar.

In this step you will learn how to create an arc polar, knowing the center point, radius, start angle and end angle.

Step Preview:

Create Arc. Arc Polar.

Choose the Fast Point icon to enter the center point. Input the coordinates 1.166, 0.0 as shown.

Enter the arc Radius 35.0.

In this step you will learn how to Trim 3 entities and use the Divide function.

From the Ribbon bar select the Trim 3 Entities button. Choose the entities in the order shown in Figure: 7.0.1. Figure: 7.0.1

Once the entities have been picked choose the Divide icon. Pick the arcs as shown in Figure: 3.0.3. Figure: 7.0.3

Once the arcs have been selected choose the OK button to exit the command.

In this step you will learn how to create filleted corners. Filleted corners apply round corners to sharp corners.

XFORM ROTATE
In this step you will learn how to rotate entities around a center point by a specified angle.

Step Preview:

Xform Rotate. Hold the shift key and pick the shape as shown in Figure: 10.0.1. Figure: 10.0.1

Choose the End Selection button. When the Rotate dialog box appears ensure Copy is enabled and input a number of copies to 6. Choose the option Total sweep in input the value of 360.0 degrees.

Pick the Clear Colors icon to set the colors back to the system colors. Your part will appear as shown.

STEP 11:

XFORM TRANSLATE
In this step you will learn how to translate entities to a different Z depth. This geometry will be used when creating a toolpath from the bottom of the part.

Step Preview:

Xform Translate.

Select the graphic view Isometric from the toolbars. Select the two outer circles as shown in Figure: 11.0.1.

Choose the End Selection button from the ribbon bar. When the Translate dialog box appears ensure Copy is enabled and input a depth of -1.5 as shown. Figure: 11.0.2
