UMTSHigh Speed Packet Access (HSDPA/HSUPA) 3 days

COURSE OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this course, the participant will: Have a thorough understanding of the UTRAN/UE layer 1 and layer 2 functionality enabling the Release 5 High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) and Release 6 High Speed Uplink Packet Access (HSUPA) features. Understand functions and signalling procedures in relation to mobility scenarios involving HSDPA and HSUPA. Through the combination of detailed descriptions and system wide overview understand how different channels are used, implemented and coded, as well as how data packets are transported and prioritised through UTRAN to/from UE. Understand how HSDPA/HSUPA key features and technical enhancements on different UTRAN/UE protocol layers interact with each other.

SUITABLE FOR: PREREQUISITES:

Those who want in-depth knowledge about HSDPA and HSUPA and their implementation in UTRAN. Apis courses UMTS-UTRAN Protocols and Procedures and UMTS Air Interface or equivalent knowledge. The course provides a detailed description of the layer 1 and layer 2 protocol functionality introduced in UTRAN to support HSDPA and HSUPA (also known as Enhanced DCH, E-DCH). Special focus is on the new Medium Access Control protocol entities (MAC-hs, MAC-e and MAC-es) and on the functionality and coding of new transport- and physical channels (e.g. HS-DSCH, HS-SCCH, E-DCH, E-AGCH and EHICH). The course explains HSDPA and HSUPA mobility scenarios, covering both hard- and soft handover cases. HSDPA/HSUPA signalling messages/parameters for various purposes such as Cell Configuration, Radio Bearer Setup, Capacity Allocation and Radio Link Setup are described. The Hybrid ARQ (HARQ) functionality for both HSDPA and HSUPA is described in detail. An overview of various (non-standardised) packet scheduling algorithms is also included.
