Japan Launching Ambitious Asteroid-Sampling Mission in 2014 The new Japanese asteroid mission, called Hayabusa2, is scheduled for launch in 2014 and aimed at the asteroid 1999 JU3, a large space rock about 3,018 feet (920 meters) in length. It is due to arrive at the asteroid in mid-2018, loiter at the space rock and carry out a slew of challenging firsts before departing the scene at the end of 2019.If all goes well, the Hayabusa2 spacecraft will return to Earth with samples of asteroid 1999 JU3 at the end of 2020. The probes name is Japanese for Falcon2.

Chief Scientific Advisor to the Defence Minister Dr Vijay Kumar Saraswat was chosen for the award for the year 2011.ASI awards for Rocket and Related Technologies was awarded to G Satheesh Reddy, Research Centre Imarat, DRDO (2010) and P Kunhikrishnan, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) (2011), The awards under Spacecraft and Related Technologies was bagged by P Chakraborty, Laboratory for Electro-Optics Systems(LEOS), ISRO (2010) and Yateendra Mehta, ISRO Satellite Centre (ISAC), ISRO (2011). Scientist Venkatesh Mannar honoured with Order of Canada Award Venkatesh Mannar a Channai-born Scientist of Indian Origin and President, Micronutrient Initiative, Canada was awarded with Canadas Highest Civilian Award the Order of Canada in the last week of December 2012.
