Everybody can be great...because anybody can serve. Martin Luther King, Jr. I don't know what your destiny will be, but one thing I know: the only ones among you who will be really happy are those who have sought and found how to serve. Albert Schweitzer

ILCS Middle School Community Service Students are required to perform a total of 30 hours of community service over the course of the school year. While serving family and neighbors is commendable, we would like our students to seek out service opportunities in the greater Yucaipa area. Get out, get involved, help people, organizations, and communities that are outside of your normal daily lives. While service within a faith based community is wonderful, and is acceptable for community service hours (i.e. helping set up at church or helping with Sunday School), we would once again like to encourage our students to look outside of their safe, comfortable, spaces to find service opportunities. Parents and guardians, as the primary educators of your children, you have the opportunity to decide what is and is not valid for community service hours. When you sign off on a log sheet, you are verifying that the hours meet with your standards. Community service should not be viewed as a task that can be faked and fudged in order to get a grade. Community service should be viewed as an opportunity to help your child grow as a person and as a leader. 3rd Trimester: 30 hours completed Community Service Presentation Grading Rubric: Weighting: 3% of grade in all classes

1st Trimester: 10 hours completed. Weighting: 1% of grade in all classes. Grade = Hours Completed / 10 10/10 = 100%, 9/10 = 90%, etc. 2nd Trimester: 20 hours completed. Weighting: 2% of grade in all classes. Grade = Hours Completed / 20 20/20 = 100%, 18/20 = 90%, etc.
