Pastor Floriano Has Graduated!

My brother, Floriano Ucuahomba, pastor, evangelist, counselor, friend, trusted collaborator, brother, and colleague, went to his reward on December 20, 2001. John, the Apostle, puts it very adequately, "Blessed are ihe dead who die in the Lord from now on." "Yes,"says ttie Spirit,
"they wiii rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them" (Rev. 14:13), Robert Fife wrote the following in his funeral remarks, which are so fitting, With his permission

I use the following:.. Pastor Floriano never hid his desire to return to Angola; however, while he was among us, he worked as if he were one of us. He served the Lord with intensity, not counting the cost.,, While talking to one of our deaconesses, she affirmed that Pastor Floriano was a sweet fragrance because he did so many things behind the scenes, which many never noticed. He was untiring, dedicated, a friend, available, sensitive, faithful, humble, apt to learn,
a servant, and thankful.

"I left for last that quality that caused the greatest impact on my own life, i.e., histhankfulness: He was always thankful. It did not matter what was done, or what was the occasion, he was always ready to thank you. He lived the Biblical teaching, "In all things, give thanks" (I
Thessalonians 5:17). He would thank you over

''Montijo - God Is Putting It All Together''

Four years ago the Carcaveios Church Leadership began to make plans to establish a new congregation on the south side of the River Tagus in a growing "sleeper" city named Montijo. The goal was to form a team, make plans, and advance with them. Much Dick & Sarah Robison with prayer and time has gone Into this project. Three of Spindolas -- Wilson, Elsa and Lucas. the original members, for one reason or another, withdrew, Only two remain from the beginning team. The second phase was to reach 3 unreached areas south of Montijo where there is no church at all. Needless to say, a new team has been formed and a nucleus of believers Is coming together. Dick and Sarah, along with Wilson and Elsa Spindola, and Lucas, lead this work, Three couples from Brazil have declared themselves ready to join hands with the leaders. Two of the couples started out with us in

Carcaveios.

Due to the distance from Carcaveios,

they were irregular. Since Montijo Is closer they have been faithful in this project. The Carcaveios church
will oversee this effort until such a time when it can

assume the full responsibility. Each man In this group

can play a musical Instrument. This gives us a built-in

praise band. We meet on Sunday afternoons at 6 p.m. and are looking for a larger place to rent as the living room is too small already. Join with us in prayer as otfiers are contacted. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide us In decisions that are going to be made. To God be the Glory!

Mother's Day

celebrated on the 2nd Sunday of May. However, it is celebrated here on the 1st Sunday in May. Twenty-one mothers were present and the children presented a speciai program for them. Each
mother received a "red rose" from the Church.

a dentist and a dear friend, for his help through the years. Dr. Andre

Araujo, a Brazilian Denist and brother, has been our "Dr. Birdweli" in Portugal. He Is always ready and willing to help us, our members and any others who need him. When I left from the USA, Dr. Birdweli offered several boxes of dental materials for use by Dr. Andre in Portugal. He was very pleased to get the materials and is in the process of opening his own office. Thank you, God, for faithful and generous professionals.

Couples' Retreat
Robertand Derlani Fife, coworkers, helped direct a retreat for younger couples from the Evangelical Churches in our area, Four couples participated in the retreat and gave excellent reports. More importantly, they show in their daily lives and in church service how God has affected them positively.

Lydias
People that you do not know might be praying for you and your family. The Bible stresses the need for each of us to pray for
one another and for those who need the

Gospel. The"Lydias"isonegroupofwomen who pray regularly for unreached people, leaders in government and for the spread of the Gospel, Sarah was able to participate in their Annual Meeting near our church. DerlanI
Fife is National Coordinator and several ladies in the Church are mermbers,

Ruth Santos participated in the music at the 2-day meetings. Praise God for this ministry of God.

New Changes te Church Building

Two brothers. Fernando Almeida, and Fernando Pereira, worked together to affix a brown aluminum cross to the west side of the Church building. A floodlight highlights it at night. Another illuminated sign with the Church name on it has been affixed as well. This gives those passing by an eastern and southern view of the Church. Both signs and the lighted cross may give some direction and possible encourogment to others.

Portuguese in Heiland
Tony Santos, a former member of the Carcavelos Church, andhisfamilylivein Holland, Tony isfrom Angola and Marianne, his wife, is from Holland, In the lost few weeks, Tony discovered a group of Angolan refugees who lived close to him. He
started to talk to them about Jesus and asked us for some

Bibles, We have sent him 80+ Bibles and he is studying with some of them. Pray for Tony and his students and that God would give him wisdom for this work.

Students Everywhere Are The Same -- They Are Great

It has been my privilege to teach at Mt, Hope Bible College, A. of G., (USA) on a part-time basis for the last 10 years. This group of 15 has studied with me this past semester "Early Church History," Most of the past years I have
taken the students to see some Paleo

Christian archaeological sites within

the Iberian Peninsula, A 3 dimensional

view of history is very helpful, and these sites are close by and are not expensive.

''Eagle's Wings / TIib Wings of a Dove" Have Been Our Strengtli Fer Tiiis Last Quarter of 2002
An intriguing translation of Isaiah 40:13 has caught my attention recently. For a few months

Ihave read from the George Lamsa translation

the Aramaic into English and this one caught my eye: "But they who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall grow wings as a dove;

One can take either meaning. If you prefer the "eaaie winas" translation you can imagine soaring high and iong with the Lord. If you prefer the "wInas

as doves) can go miles upon miles without tiring and are weii trained, i believe that the "wings of g dove" has tremendous symbolism in the New Testament beginning with the baptism of Jesus and with the start of the Church on the Day of Pentecost, Whichever you prefer, God has given us the renewal, the fresh strength, the endurance, and given us power to wait, walk, and run when necessary. We thank Jesus for His ever-ioving

She has showed herself a willing, capable, and avid learner. Before leaving she offered some beginning English
