COURSE OVERVIEW
The Practical Fire Fighting Training Workshop is specically designed for your Fire & HSE teams who may be called upon to handle & manage an emergency or disaster situation. With the higher risks associated with expanding industry there is a real need for more people to be trained in re ghting & incident management to prevent the loss of life and damage to infrastructure. This training is a 5 day course consisting of classroom and hands-on eld application training. Training is conducted through student participation, operational classes, case studies, eld exercises and scenarios, classroom exercises and discussions.

Michael Cadotte has a long career in virtually all areas of re ghting, training & re prevention. With over 25 years experience as a Professional Fireghter, Michael has the background knowledge and hands-on experience to ensure that Delegates receive only the most up-to-date and professional training available. PROGRAM PREREQUISITES:
Ensure re ghters meet professional qualications with the updated NFPA 1001. NFPA 1001: Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualications identies the minimum job performance requirements for career and volunteer re ghters whose duties are primarily structural in nature. In a major change, the 2008 edition moves from Fire Fighter II to Fire Fighter I, the minimum requirement for Competencies for First Responder at the Operational Level for Responders to Hazardous Materials Incidents. This edition also includes the addition of a Skills Maintenance requirement. Ensure competency and document the two important levels of progression for re ghters with the 2008 NFPA 1001. (Softbound, 22 pp. 2008) Prior to commencement of the Program all candidates must be in medically and physically t condition. The strength of this program will not only lie in the high quality of the curriculum but in the dedication and commitment of our Professional Instructor. An active Advisory Committee, made up of respected professionals from within the re service, will ensure the currency and relevancy of all aspects of this dynamic program.

DAY1

FIRE BEHAVIOR/CHEMISTRY OF COMBUSTION


Describe physical and chemical changes of matter related to re. Discuss modes of combustion, the re triangle, and the re tetrahedron. Explain the dierence between heat and temperature. Describe sources of heat energy. Discuss the transmission of heat. Explain how the physical states of fuel aect the combustion process. Explain how oxygen concentration aects the combustion process. Discuss self-sustained chemical reaction involved in the combustion process. Describe common products of combustion. Distinguish among classications of res. Describe the stages of re development within a compartment. Summarize factors that aect re development within a compartment. Describe methods used to control and extinguish re.

DAY 3
INCIDENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
Discuss emergency scene preparedness. Discuss emergency scene safety. Summarize general guidelines for scene management including highway incidents, crowd control, and cordoning o emergency scenes. Explain the importance of personnel accountability. Summarize basic interior operations techniques. Describe emergency escape and rapid intervention. Respond to an incident, correctly mounting and dismounting an apparatus.

FIREFIGHTER PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT


Describe the purpose of protective clothing and equipment. Describe characteristics of protective clothing and equipment. Summarize guidelines for the care of personal protective clothing. List the four common respiratory hazards associated with res and other emergencies. Distinguish among characteristics of respiratory hazards. Describe physical, medical, and mental factors that aect the reghters ability to use respiratory protection eectively. Describe equipment and air-supply limitations of SCBA. Discuss eective air management. Distinguish among characteristics of air-purifying respirators, open-circuit SCBA, and closed-circuit SCBA. Describe basic SCBA component assemblies.
