A Description of the class


Level : Intermediate Students between the ages of 20-23. all women The class takes place from 15.20.-17.000p.m. on Fridays. The students are generally enthusiastic, but often tired: concentration sometimes suffers as a result. Students have completed approximately 200 hours of English.

B Recent work
Students have been studying vocabulary discovery activities followed by language practice. Writing personal opinions about their favourite activities. Listening work (listening for detailed comprehension). Writing notes based on the listening.

C Objectives
1. To create interest in the topic of movies: to promote discussion. 2. To raise expectations and create involvement in a reading task. 3. To write a description of a favourite movie/actor. 4. To study relevant words. 5. To explain idioms.

D Contents
Objective 1: (Estimated time : 5 minutes) (a) Context: Students own favourite kind of movies (b) Activity/class Discussion. SS are asked what kind of movie they have seen recently and which is the favourite genre of movie they prefer. (c) Aids: None. (d) Language: All and any. (e) Possible problems: Students may not have much to say. The teacher will be prepared to prompt if necessary or shorten the activity if that seems appropriate. Objective 2: (Estimated time : 20 minutes) (a) Context: Teacher will give papers to the students and they are asked to read louder the texts.

(b) Activity/class Whole class reads the text and participates to the discussions, trying ti identify the movies titles.After finishing the text,they complete the blanks following the indications. organisation: on the board,frontal (c) Aids: Board; chalk or board pen, dictionaries, papers (d) Language: All and any; cinema vocabulary. (e) Possible problems: Students may not know all the movies. Objective 3: (Estimated time : 15minutes) (a) Context: A text about the favourite actor/actress. (b) Activity/class Students write in pair groups and the other groups should guess who the actor is. Organization: work in pairs (c) Aids: paper,pen teachers explanations if it is necessary. (d) Language: All and any especially vocabulary related to movies. (e) Possible problems: the students may not understand their mate. Objective 4: (Estimated time : 5 minutes) (a) Context: vocabulary exercises. (b) Activity/class the students have to find individually the American correspondent word for those in English: Organization: individually (c) Aids: Wordlist , pen (d) Language: As in (b) above; discussion language (e) Possible problems: Students dont know any of the words. Maybe they know all of them. T assesses the situation and is prepared for more explanation or to cut the activity short and move on. Objective 5: (Estimated time : 5 minutes) (a) Context: Idioms. (b) Activity/class :T writes on the blackboard some idioms and the students have to find the explanation in English. Organization: individually (c) Aids: the board and dictionaries, SSs notebooks. (d) Language: English (e) Possible problems: SS might not know some of the idioms.
