Friend Finder

In this fast paced world, there is always a need for new innovative mobile solutions to give an edge to one operator over another. Globitels Friend Finder solution does precisely this. Friend Finder allows subscribers to enquire about other subscribers geographical location by sending an SMS to the Friend Finder server. The system then locates the requested friends location, and sends a message back to the subscriber indicating the approximate geographical location of their friend. When talking about location based applications, there are three main methods of implementation. The first method uses triangulation; a very effective way to return the location of any Mobile user; however, the high cost of the infrastructure may be an obstacle. Another method is the use of GPS, a much less expensive technique where no pre-existing infrastructure is needed; however, the subscriber is required to have a GPS handset. The last method is the Location Based Service (LBS) Enablement Layer offered by Globitel which is dependent upon the Cell ID; connecting to the HLR in order to return the requested location. Friend Finder is one of the applications built on the LBS Enablement Layer through which subscribers can inquire about others geographical location after passing the authentication process. Additionally, Friend Finder can be used by corporations as a Fleet Management System. Different applications can be developed on top of Globitels LBS Enablement Layer to accommodate different subscriber needs such as Restaurant Locators, Nearest Police Stations Service, etc.
