LETTERS AND DOCUMENTS Official documents offer source material for tracing developments in the history of the Order of Poor Sisters Saint Clare founded. This collection is limited to thirteenth century documents up to the year 1260. They are listed in Chronological Order. 1216 - The Privilege of Poverty of Pope Innocent III. Sicut manifestum est. [Date is disputed] It was unique for a community of cloistered women to request the Privilege of Poverty from the Holy See, even more so after the IV Lateran Council when the Bishops were forbidden to allow women to live without endowments. Clare's fortitude stands out in the explanation of these circumstances in the following work:
