SOCIAL SERVICES, FACILITIES AND UTILITIES

Schools As early as preschool level type of education is available in the city which offered by form privately run preschools and complimented with the citys. Social welfare departments 62 day care centers spread in the fifty one (51) barangays for kids who could not afford private education at this level. Elementary Schools are made available by ten (10) private schools, three (3) of which also after secondary education and 48 public elementary school for secondary level. Seven (7) are privately run while ten (10) are public high schools. One (1) public and nine (9) private schools for technical and vocational courses are supporting which prepare the students for immediate employment both in local and foreign labor force. Tertiary education is offered by the prestigious schools La Salle University, Misamis University and Medina College which offered doctoral courses down to preschool.

Health Sanitation and Nutrition


Three (3) tertiary level hospital operate in the city, one of is public and the other two are privately owned. The Mayor Hilarion A. Ramiro Sr. Regional Training and Teaching Hospiatal (MHARS-RTTH) a 150 capacity while Medina General Hospaital which has also 150 bed capacity and the Misamis University Medical Center which is a 100 bed capacity are private hospitals. Another four (4) hospitals which are of secondary level operate in the city and these are the Faith Hospital with 50 bed capacity, St. Marys Hospital with 20 bed capacity, Misamis Community Hospital which has 14 bed capacity and the local government operated hospital the SM Lao Memorial Hospital with 59 bed capacity. The Ozamiz City Health Office also provides health services particularly on preventive, regulatory inspectorial and medical care services. Extension of the health services to the barangays are 52 barangays health centers which are named barangay health workers and city health nurses and midwives who visit the center once a week. The City Nutrition Office with the aid of the Barangay Nutrition Scholar is responsible for the implementation of the Nutrition Program of the city. Malnutrition problem is the most common in the coastal and thickly populated barangays. There were at least less than a thousand (978) children who were malnourished, 902 or ninety two (92) percent of these wre BNL or below normal, low are eight (8) percent (76) were BNVL below normal,very low.

Toilet Facilities
A total of 21,197.82 % of the total households used water sealed toilets, server/septic tank. Majority of this using water sealed or 70% are used exclusively by the household and the rest are shared with other households. The remaining 45.60 or 18% used with close pit or open pit toilet facilities.

Cemeteries and Memorial Park


Seven cemeteries exist in the city, two which are classified memorial parks, the Mt. Malindang Memorial Park at Bagakay with an area of 4.1221 hectares and the Pryce Corp. Memorial Park at Dimaluna with an area of 9.32. Three of these cemeteries are owned by Roman Catholic Church.

Solid Waste Disposal/Treatment


Domestic, commercial industries are collected and disposed to controlled dump site at Barangay Bongbong. Institutional waste as in the public mall, slaughter house are disposed to the citys bioreactor and processed as compost a soil conditioner. Material Recovery Facilities (MRF) are established in several urban barangays.

Housing
A total of 24,794 households were recorded in 2007 and a total of 23,764 housing units. Also reported were a total of 518 informal settlers. Three private subdivisions delivering a total of 638 housing units were also reported. Other household or families were housed in 93 various relocation and resettlements and additional four sites as Gawad Kalinga producing 19 units or housing 462 families.

Social Welfare
Services for the abandoned/neglected cover spiritual upliftment; counseling; temporary shelter; remedial class; livelihood for the youth in conflict with the law; skills training and livelihood and day care services in all barangays for senior citizens. A total of 390 families; 45 women, 94 youth; 2,086 children; 2,500 elderly and 105 persons with disabilities were served.

Protective Services
The city has a police force and a fire protection headquarters. The police headquarters have 64 personnel and 5 traffic outpost station personnel, it is provided with 2 handheld radios and two units vehicle. The fire protection headquarters has 30 personnel plus 16 personnel in its substation provided with 4 firetrucks, 1 vehicle. It has a city jail with 25 personnel and one prisoners van.

Crime and Fire Incidence


A total of 115 crimes were reported in 2008, some 16 or 14 percent were committed by female and 99 or 86 percent by male. The number one crime was murder reported at 37, followed by RA7610 & 9262 violations 27, rape 23, robbery 14, homicide and theft both at 7 cases each.

Sports
All barangays in the city have standard basketball courts. 8 barangays have volleyball courts, 4 barangays with multipurpose halls, 3 with tennis courts; and one with golf links. The Mt. Malindang Golf Course a nine hole golf course located at Bagakay and the city owned gymnasium. Privately owned gymnasium numbered 4 and 2 cinema houses.
