General Requirements Prior to entering service, all new fire extinguishers to be installed have been delivered to Local Fire Control Unit for inspection (using GI-1781 checklists), commissioning, tagging, & SA numbering. Fire Protection Equipment Layout Drawings are checked against installation locations (numbers marked on all extinguishers). NCRs (damages upon receipt) are resolved or detail final disposition & resolution. Punch list items (on receipt) are identified for follow-up Dry Chem 12.2 Kg Class BC (SAMS-21-102-840) extinguishers use Purple K (potassium bicarbonate) as the extinguishing agent. Multi-purpose Dry Chemical Class ABC (SAMS-21-02-775) extinguishers use monoammonium phosphate (extinguishing agent). Hand-type portable extinguishers in process plant areas are installed at 30 m intervals. Where extinguishers protect individual equipment, they are located at least 7.5 m from equipment. Placement of portable extinguishers in buildings complies with NFPA 10, Chapter 3 & Appendix E as listed below: A) Uniform distribution has been provided B) Easy accessibility has been provided C) Unobstructed access (from storage areas & equipment) exists D) Located near normal paths of travel E) Located near entrance and exit doors F) Located where there is no potential of physical damage G) Located where readily visible H) Located on a floor-by-floor basis Dry chemical extinguishers are located on the building exterior of control buildings & electrical substations, near entrances. Carbon dioxide (CO2) extinguishers are located inside control room buildings & electrical substations. Pressurized water extinguishers are located in areas subject to Class A (wood, paper, cardboard) fires. Hand-type portable extinguishers are mounted in easily accessible locations at grade or first level operating decks near access stairs. Their locations are marked in red to attract attention Extinguishers weighing less than 18 kg are mounted so that tops are not more than 1.5 meters above floors or deck levels. Extinguishers weighing more than 18 kg are mounted so that tops are not more than 1.05 meters above floors or deck levels

Occupant organizations (Contractors) immediately inform proponent GI 1781.001 Para organization & local fire control units anytime fire protection equipment is 6.3 activated, used, damaged, or taken from service. Once installed, maintenance & inspection of all portable extinguishers meets the requirements of GI-1781.001. See Specific Checklist Sections 3, 4 & 5 as applicable Maintenance & Recharging (NFPA 10 Requirements) Fire extinguishers are subjected to maintenance at intervals of not more than 1 year, at the time of hydrostatic test, or when specifically indicated by an inspection or electronic notification. Stored-pressure types (loaded stream agent) are disassembled on an annual basis & subjected to complete maintenance: A) Prior to disassembly, fire extinguisher is fully discharged. B) During discharge, valve & pressure gauge operation is checked. All CO2 hose assemblies receive an annual conductivity test: A) Hose assemblies found to be nonconductive are replaced. B) Hose assemblies that pass a conductivity test: A metallic label (1/2 X 3") is affixed to hose by a heatless process All rechargeable-type fire extinguishers are recharged after any use or as indicated by inspection or when performing maintenance. When recharging, manufacturer recommendations are followed. A) Amount of recharge agent is verified by weighing. B) Recharged gross weight is the same as that marked on the label. C) If no gross weight lable exists, one is affixed to the cylinder. After recharging, a leak test is performed on stored-pressure and selfexpelling types of fire extinguishers. Pump tank water & calcium chloride-based antifreezes for fire extinguishers are all recharged with new water/chemicals annually. Wetting Agents for stored-pressure extinguishers are replaced annually with same agents specified on the extinguisher nameplate. Mixing of Dry Chemicals (Multipurpose dry chemicals) is not performed with alkaline-based dry chemicals. Dry Powders (agents) are covered & replaced if found damp. Nonwater extinguisher moisture is removed before recharging Halogenated agent extinguishers are charged with a proper type & weight of agent as specified on the extinguisher nameplate NFPA 10, Section 6.3 SAES-B-019 Para 4.7

ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA Halogenated agent Re-use & handling is performed as follows: A) Halogenated Agent Re-use (removal of Halon 1211) is done only with a listed halon closed recovery system B) Empty Halogenated agent fire extinguishers are examined internally and are free of contamination or corrosion, or both. C) Halogenated agent retained in system recovery is re-used only if no evidence of extinguisher cylinder contamination was found. D) Halogenated agents removed from extinguishers exhibiting internal contamination/corrosion are processed (per manufacturer) Carbon Dioxide quality (analysis) is as follows: A) Vapor phase is not less than 99.5 percent carbon dioxide. B) Water content of the liquid phase is 0.01 percent by weight (maximum) at -30F (-34.4C) dew point. C) Oil content of carbon dioxide does not exceed 10 ppm by weight Pressurized Water extinguisher recharging is determined by use of the proper amount of liquid agent by a method listed below: A) Exact measurement by weight B) Exact measurement in volume C) An anti-overfill tube, if provided D) A fill mark on fire extinguisher shell, if provided Wet Chemical Agent Re-use is not allowed: A) Wet chemical extinguisher's partially discharged require that all remaining wet chemical be discarded. B) Discard & replace wet chemical agents (hydrostatic test interval) Pressure Gauges are used as follows: A) Replacements have proper indicated charge (service) pressure B) Gauges are marked for use with the agent in the extinguisher C) Gauges are compatible with the extinguisher valve body material Pressurize rechargeable stored-pressure-type fire extinguishers only to the charging pressure specified on extinguisher nameplate. A) The manufacturer's pressurizing adapter shall be connected to the valve assembly before the fire extinguisher is pressurized. B) Regulated pressure sources, set no higher than 25 psi above operating (service) pressure are used for pressurization. C) Gauge used to set regulated pressure is calibrated annually. D) Extinguishers are never left connected for extended periods. Pressurizing Gas (Dry chemical & Halon) is industrial grade nitrogen (dew point -60F or lower, CGA spec G10.1, Gr. D thru P. Class D fire extinguishers are pressurized with argon and are repressurized only with expellant gas listed on extinguisher label. A Tag or Label securely affixed to each extinguisher indicates the month & year of recharging & the service personnel responsible. Verification of Service Collar (for Maintenance or Recharging): A) Collar installion is tamper-proof & used to identify valve removal. B) Collar includes month & year serviced (perforation, hand punch) C) Liquefied gas, halogen agent, CO2, & Cartridge/cylinder operated extinguishers (without valve removal) do not require collars.
