jfiven the Legal authorities, the ones whose duty it is to prosecute the marijuana smokers, admit thai the weed has none of the drawbacks of the other high-makers in general use today. It is not habitforming, like alcohol and narcotics are. Yet, what have you ever dune that you enjoyed that you just willingly and cheerfully gave up doing ! Is this something to he hoped for? Are the pot users in your school the top students? Are they the leaders who keep social activities hopping? Are they the fun crowd everyone wants to run with? Or are they the hangers-on, the thrillseekers, the tough, rowdy, try-anthirig-for-hichs kids? There are two other possibilities that need mentioning. One, if you've never tried pot, you may be very disappointed when you do. Regardless of the claims of its admirers, there are some people for whom pot does absolutely nothing. And, non-addictive though it is, a weak-minded person may form such a dependence on having it, that soon con? use isn't enough and he must go on to the ut.v hard drugs. This i.s a fact, not often mentioned, but admitted to us by a long-time pot lover. This is a tough and tragic age we live in, when so many people rely on one means or another to escape from the harsh realities of the world, or the monottheir daily lives. Perhaps if we took the time ony of the and effort effort to find the way to improvement from within ourselves, rather than depending on the use of one or another, more or less harmful, outside agents such as pot, we might all be the better and happier for it. And the question of whether or not to smoke pot would not be the burning issue of the day that it unfortunately is, in school and elsewhere. There is, interestingly, such an abundance of marijuana growing wild that if it were to become legal to smoke it, a pack of reefers or joints, as their users call the rolled-up, ready-to-smoke cigarette, would cost far less than do ordinary cigarettes! generation. There is more interf aith dating and marriage now than there ever was, and interracial marriage is no longer banned. We are all for this, because it gives everyone a wider choice from which to select friends as well as life-long mates, and it may well lead to longer, happier marriages. Even so, no one can force you to marry someone you don't want to, for religious or what-

Dear Miss X, used to hate my name, too. really did, because all my friends had modern-sounding names, short, and thought mine was ridiculous and old-fashioned. Dear Samantha,

Dear Puzzled, Only your own heart can give you the answer to this. If you go out on a date and are plagued by a troubled conscience, you'll have a miserable time, and you might as well stay home. If you feel you aren't doing anything wrong, then go.

Dear Miserable, Things really won't be one-tenth as bad as you're making them. You can't judge a new place and new people without having seem them any more than you'd want to be judged that way. Every man in the world wants to feel that his woman is his and his alone, even when he knows it's not really so. He may know it, but you never remind him of the fact that there have been other men in your life, especially your intimate life. Many foolish females think that bragging about past male attentions will make the current guy jealous and more desirous of her; I must repeat it will get you only anger and perhaps even the loss of your man. Boys are only men grown up, remember, and that growing up means not a change in male emotions, but rather a deepening and intensifying of the
basic male characteristics. There are some differences, of course, but these will show themselves in the closeness of a marriage. Until that time, everything that follows applies to all the boys in your life.

They don't like to be reminded of female underclothing. It's probably for this reason that women used to, and sometimes still do, refer to lingerie and undergarments as "unmentionables." This may seem quaint to you, but a boy doesn't need to know about the tugging and pulling into that girdle that has you looking so smooth and sleek. What's important is that you do look good; you and you alone should know how it happened. That's why you should be so careful in dressing; bra straps shouldn't show, slip shouldn't be peeping below your hemline; these not only detract from your appearance, they embarrass
boys.

xlave you ever thought about this difference between guys and gals: the boys usually like to talk about things; the girls would rather talk about people. This means, don't gossip with your boyfriend the way you would with a gal-pal. They just don't dig it in the same way we do. They'd rather discuss baseball and cars than what a snotty little rat Helen is or why nobody worthwhile will go near Lenora. There is a list of things not to talk to a boy about that would fill an encyclopaedia, and it changes for every boy. Luckily, we can cover it very easily, and that is simply never talk about anything that you know more about than he does! No boy likes to be out-thought, out-talked or out-smarted by a girl, so even if you know more about football than he does, don't let it show. This goes for all general subjects. Of course, if you know more details about the dance you want him to take you to, it's okay to let him in on it. This doesn't mean to act stupid with boys; you should be interested in whatever the guy is talking about, asking questions if you have any, expressing your own opinions, just don't be trying to outdo him.
