Introduction
OpenSRS maintains a system that can be used to have a goMobi site be seen at a particular web address such as m.example.com. This is accomplished through a system known as DNS which stands for Domain Name System and is used to return technical information about addresses a human is able to understand such as www.example.com. The most common use of DNS is to direct your computer to other computers on the Internet. Computers can only contact other computers if they know their network address number, and DNS is used to convert words to network addresses numbers. An example of DNS is seen when you use a web browser to view a website. When you type the address www.example.com into your web browser, the DNS system informs your computer that www.example.com has the network address 4.8.15.16. After this happens your computer understands it should contact the web server located at the network address 4.8.15.16 and request the web page. The root domain (example.com), as well as all variations of the domain name (www.example.com, mobile.example.com, and so on) can be forwarded to the goMobi site using the Domain Forwarding option in OpenSRSs DNS service. The instructions in this document will help you to configure the DNS settings for goMobi and to configure the OpenSRS forwarding service for the root domain.
