FUNDAMENTAL KNOWLEDGE FOR VIBRATION TESTING

Principle
The operation principle of the Electro-Dynamic Vibration Test System is as same as that of an audio speaker and Flemming`s left hand rule is applied. When electric current flows through the wire across a magnetic flux (magnetic field), the force is generated toward the rectangular direction from the wire. The force (excitation force) vibrates the armature tables in the Electro-dynamic vibration test systems. Rated Force The force that the vibration test system can generate. The force is defined as peak value in case of SINE vibration and RMS value (Root Mean Square) in case of RANDOM vibration. Max. Acceleration The max. acceleration value that the vibration test system can generate at no loading condition. The value is calculated by the rated excitation force being divided by the armature mass. Max. Velocity The maximum velocity value that the vibration test system can generate. Max. Displacement The max. displacement value that the vibration test system can generate. This value is limited by the allowable mechanical stroke of the vibrators armature and usually described in double amplitude (peak-peak) value. Max. Loading weight The max. loading weight on the armature (or the vibrator table) of the vibrator. Armature Mass The armature is the vibration part in a vibrator and is assembled from Vibration Table. That test specimens or vibration test fixtures are mounted, and Drive coil. When the rated force is the same in the two vibration systems. The system that uses the smaller mass armature vibrator can generate larger acceleration. Allowable overturning moment The eccentricity (off-centered) moment value that the vibrator armature guidance system or the guidance system for the vibration table allows.

Inside Of Vibrator
The Electro-dynamic vibrator generates its excitation force by the flow of an electric AC signal through the Drive coil that is located in a strong magnetic flux generated by Permanent magnet or Field coil as shown below

Terminology
Frequency range The Frequency range that the vibration test system manufacturer (maker) defines for the rated force, the maximum acceleration, the maximum velocity and the maximum displacement of the system.

FUNDAMENTAL KNOWLEDGE FOR VIBRATION TESTING

A Little Mathematics.......
2 p(sqr) f(sqr) d 2pfv = A= 9800 9800 V =pxfxd Where A = Acceleration in g unit (peak) V = Velocity in mm/s (peak) d = Displacement in mm (peak-peak) f = Frequency in Hz SHOCK Tests Like RANDOM vibration, SHOCK waveform has wide frequency range spectrum and enables to excite lots of resonances of the specimen simultaneously at many frequencies. In case of RANDOM vibration, the excitation gives so-called Gaussian Distribution type vibration that is very close to long time real vibration waveform, outstanding field failure due to the stress can be reproduced on the testing system. Real waveform vibration test The vibration test reproduce captured real field vibration waveform data on the vibration test system and are mainly preformed for field vibration simulation test for seismic engineering or automotive products engineering.

Test method
SINE Vibration Test The two type test methods are done : the one is SWEEP test, that changes the excitation frequency continuously according to the frequency sweep method specified in the test. And the other is the fixed excitation frequency test, DISCRETE test. Sine vibration test are performed for original industrial vibration tests including measurement of dynamic motion characteristics of specimen, such as Resonance Dwell test, that performs measurement and tracking of change of resonance frequency of the specimen automatically and that performs the SINE vibration durability test at the changed new resonance frequency,is also done.

Maintenance and Calibration

By performance of appropriate scheduled maintenance. Electro-dynamic vibration test systems can be used for a long time and with high quality performance. The scheduled maintenance and calibration working are essential for the customers to keep the test systems under the original trace abilities. For this, DESPL recommends the customers to perform scheduled maintenance and calibration of the installed vibration systems every year.

RANDOM Vibration Test

Real vibration is not a simple or periodic vibration waveform like SINE vibration. Rather, real vibration waveform is of a random or transient shock waveform, including many vibration spectra. In SINE vibration tests, only the one frequency resonance of the specimens can be excited. In RANDOM vibration tests, specimen are subjected to vibration energy spectra in a wide frequency range and excited at many response frequencies simultaneously.

Combined Environmental Test Chamber

Vibration + Temperature + Humidity = Combined Test
The environments which give the industrial products destructive stress are thought to be such climatic environments (i.e. temperature, humidity, rain and dust) and physical environments as a vibration, shock, or acceleration. Industrial products are always subjected to these complicated combined stresses, not a single stress. Features : Wide variation C h a m b e r d o o r a r r a n g e m e n t , w i d e temper ature/humidity range, position of compressor, cooling method and integration of chamber with shaker. Direct coupling Direct coupling combination method applies to eliminate loss of excitation capability of a vibrator in a combination test. How to select a system The system rating are prepared as per direction of International Standards Organization document ISO5344 (BS6140). Following information assist in selecting a suitable configuration system for intended applications Select a Vibration Shaker System The rating of the system is defined in terms of Kgf force and is calculated by using the formula-The rating of the system is defined in terms of Kgf force and is calculated by using the formulaForce (F) = Mass(m) Acceleration (a) Where: Force (F) in Kgf Mass (m) is the total moving mass (Armature + ILS + Pay support + Fixture + Object, all in Kg. Note: Acceleration (g) due to natural gravity = 9.8066m/s Other the this some important factors as test profile, specimen dimensions, test axis, test type, guides for optimum shaker selection. For this reason, combined environmental test systems which can create a test environment simulating real environment, are used. DESPL can recommend the most suitable combined test systems to the test application based on our experience and wide products lineup Data control and logging The integrated test control and data management for the climatic environmental test and the vibration test by using a PC based controller. Individual / combined test use The vibration test system and the climate test chamber can be used individually as the chamber have moving arrangement in horizontal and vertical direction. Sine Vibration Rating Sine vibration test is very common test having different profiles. Endurance by sweeping is the most appropriate method for simulating the effect of stress undergone by specimen in use. The displacement is associated with a corresponding value of acceleration in such a manner that the magnitude of vibration should be same at the cross over frequency. The frequency range may be thus programmed and swept continuously changing from constant displacement to constant acceleration and vice-versa at the cross-over frequency. Random Vibration Rating Acceleration (g) in random testing is defined in terms of r.m.s value and calculated on the basis of Power Spectral Density (PSD). Random ratings have been calculated as per the directions of International Standards Organization document ISO 5354. The force rating are based on flat spectrum 100 to 200 Hz with 20db /decades roll-off from 100Hz down to 20Hz, with loads equal to or greater than twice the armature mass. ISO 5344 indicates that the ratio of peak to rms acceleration level must be atleast 3:1 sigma, as measured on vibration table Shock Vibration Rating The shock capability of the system is determined by the test profile such as pulse duration, pulse amplitude, pre and post pulse structure etc. Dynamic Env. Solutions Pvt. Ltd. Should be consulted to provide the most suitable system.

Vibration Meter ( DVA Meter )

DVA Meter, is a comprehensive user friendly Equipment, used in conjunction with any Vibration System to monitor various Vibration parameters i. e. Acceleration, Displacement & Velocity with the help of Accelerometer. Designed for applications in measurement of mechanical vibrations on machines on the shop floor as well as on structures. This instrument can be used also to monitor vibration levels in production machines on a periodic basis, so that action can be taken before a complete machine failure occurs. The measured parameters can be read out from the LCD display. It also provides AC output, which can be taken for recording purpose and for other processing.
