The path to losing your credibility is paved with giving bad data.

What Information Do I Include?


INFORMATION DATA FACTS OPINIONS

Choose what to include and what to ignore.

Lets consider about : a. How does this support my purpose? b. Is it from a credible source? c. Will including this material help lead logically to my conclusion?

Sources of Information
1. A primary source is firsthand, unedited information. 2. A secondary source is interpreted, or summarized information from the primary source.

So, Whats the key of finding source of information?


Remember, the key is to not to find the most information available, but to find the best information available.

Internet Source
Its better for you to verify the information you get online. Just because something is posted online does not mean that its accurate.

Library Source
The librarians knows how to help you. Dont be afraid to ask questions, and be open to ideas. Do not expect them to do your work.

Materials could be include annual reports, marketing materials, and internal communication. You ask someone who works in the company to share information.

Dont expect employees to share confidential information. Remember that materials may be designed to portray a positive image.

Things to Remember
Keep track of content and reference them as you speak. Check the credibility of all the information you use.

Interview Source
The ability to ask well-prepared questions can benefit you to gather information. Interviewing is also an excellent way to get firsthand information.

Some hazards are associated with interviews:


The person may not tell you the truth or might not show up. The information might be generalized to a larger population, in fact, it is simply the opinion of one person.

Simple rules to interview someone in person, online, or by phone:


1. Start scheduling early. 2. Be clear about the purpose of the interview. 3. Prepare your questions in advance.

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE
Some of the presentations can be based on personal experience. But real-life illustrations only work on when the audiences can identify it and can envision themselves in a similar situation.

Be careful if you retell a story you heard from someone else. Because it may be associated with the original speaker, or it could be inaccurate.

General knowledge means the information that is trusted to others or thats been learned over time. It includes common knowledge and lessons that has been learned from life experience.

General knowledge is valid, as long as it is accurate. So, double-check the accuracy of material you include when you are speaking in public.

Information comes in many forms and can be either hard and measurable or soft and anecdotal.

Sharing a personal experience whether its yours or someone elses is a powerful way to connect with other people. Effective stories are easy to visualize. they evoke emotion.

QUOTES
Quotes also add human interest and drama to your presentation. Quoting someone well known or considered a credible source can give you credibility.

STATISTICS
Use statistics to clarify, support, and add powerful impact to your points. Improper use can make your presentation boring and unbelievable.

FACTS
A fact is something that is true and can be objectively proven. We need to present accurate facts. If they arent accurate, well have no credibility with our audience.
