SemesterI ThePhilosophicalUnderpinningsofthisProgrammeofStudy Thisisapracticeorientedprogrammeofstudy.Itsmainthemereflectsanefforttokindlea valueorientedandholisticthoughtprocessintheconsciousnessofthestudentthatwilllead hertoabetterrealizationandappreciationofthefactthatthereshouldbeharmonybetween whatonethinks,whatonefeelsandwhatonecreatesorpresentsexternally.Inotherwords, thecoursewillfosteravaluesystemthatreliesonactionsstemminginharmonywithaninner valuesystem. ThePedagogicalPrescriptions Thepracticeinvolvedrequiresstudentstotakecognizanceofsomedefiningepisodesinthelife ofMahatmaGandhifromhisschoolyearstotheendofhislifeandtoexaminehowhe managedtocreateabalanceandharmonybetweenhisactionsandthoughtsandhis conscience.Thestudentwillbeaskedtoseekincidentsandepisodesinherownlifeandworld thatresembletheseincidentsandepisodesfromGandhislifeandshewillhavetostudyher ownresponses(ortheresponsesandactionsofthepersonagesinvolved)incomparisonwith theresponsesofGandhitotheextentpossible.Thestudentwilladditionallybeaskedto maintainadiarywhichshallrecordanyepisodesthathappeninherlifeandwhichbearsome resemblancetothechosenepisodesfromGandhislifeforacomparativestudy.Thestudent willbefurtheraskedtoenlargethisstudytoepisodesfromhistoryinthelivesofgreat individualsandalsofromliteraturethatmayevenbeintherealmoffiction.Shewillalsobe exposedtofilmsanddocumentariesaswellasvisitstospotsinDelhiconnectedwiththelifeof MahatmaGandhi. Objective Toinstilltheprinciplesofnonviolenceandtruthineachstudentthroughcreatingawareness aboutMahatmaGandhispracticeofthesebeliefsinhisownlife.
