Activists from many states around the country participated in a conference call late Wednesday evening after
hearing the news that the 111th U.S. Congress is considering a vote this week on the massive, stealth energy bill
known as the ”American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009.” (H.R. 2454, soon-to-be H.R. 2998).
“’Americans Cleaned Out with No Energy or Security Act of 2009’ would be a more appropriate title for the
bill,” stated Amanda Teegarden.
The call focused on getting accurate information out to all the activists’ networks, which was noted as
extremely difficult because the bill has been “fast-tracked”. Call participants will encourage everyone in their
networks to contact their representatives by all available means today. The original bill was over 557 pages in
length, now over 1200 pages, with 300 pages approved by the Rules Committee late last night. As of 4:00PM
EST, there was no complete physical copy available; the Clerk of the House was still collating additions as of
that hour.
“There is no way anyone in the House will have time to actually read the bill before it is voted on, so that
should clearly result in a ‘no’ vote,” stated Shelli Dawdy.
H.R. 2454 represents a massive growth of government and would negatively affect all types of energy
generation and use both public and private; all modes of transportation; all utilities; all building codes; and
basically every facet of living.
“This bill also includes the cap-and-trade scheme which is really a massive tax hike, as well as efforts to curb
‘global warming’,” Joan Fabiano stated. She continued, “This will be devastating for our senior citizens on a
fixed income.”
Estimated cost per household is over $3,100 per year.
“We are throwing down the gauntlet to our representatives,” said Sandra Crosnoe, “They need to halt voting on
this bill until there is an open and public debate. Anyone who votes ‘yes’ on this bill will get a ‘no’ from the
American people on Election Day.”
