Shape and size of the plot: The best shapes for plots of land are square or rectangular, facing squarely on the four cardinal directions. It is good if the plot is narrower at the entrance and wider at its rear, but the opposite is not good. Round, oval, and triangular plots should be avoided. The house should not be built in the shape of a diamond, with the corner facing north. L-shaped plots are also inauspicious and should not be purchased. If the land is cut in the corner this is not good. If possible the land to fill in the missing corner should be purchased. If the land is cut short on the northeast side it is very bad and is not auspicious; do not purchase it. It is like a headless body. A land tilt of 20 degrees, off square by 20 degrees, is acceptable. If the plot is rectangular, it is better that the longer sides run north to south rather than west to east. The best properties are either square or rectangular. If the plot is not a perfect rectangle, it is best if at least the southwest and southeast sides of the land are at 90 angles from one another. The southwest side of the quadrilateral should definitely not be extended past the southeast side, even if that means giving away a portion of the plot. Land that extends past the northeast side of the quadrilateral, however, brings wealth, happiness, and good name. Land extending on the northeast side is very good. Extensions on any other side are inauspicious. Extensions of the northwest side will cause you to lose money and peace. The following chart shows the different shapes of plots and their suitability and effects.

Rectangular Shaped
Circular Shaped
Wheel Shaped
Triangular Shaped
Bhadarshan Shaped
Not good for residence. Can be used for special type of buildings like government buildings only. Causes wants and poverty, even imprisonment. The owner has to run here and there like a Cart. Not good if used for cattle shed, the cattle reared here perish. Will have very bad effect on the eye sight of inmates. Also everyone in the house will lose discretion fright judgement. Inmates of this plot face fear of theft, loot, attack by enemies etc.
Muslakar plot (long oval like plot with cut in one side)
This is considered good if all other Vastu principles are followed. Is said to be helpful in progress of family members. Loss in many ways like money, women and respect. Such plot should not be inhabited before making it a rectangular plot otherwise it will bring legal litigations and false allegations. Is auspicious and will bring all round prosperity. People who live on this plot face problems and obstacles for progress. Not good for residential purposes. Is very auspicious for business organisation. Auspicious provided the roads are in Southern and Westeren sides of plot.
Projections, retractions & closed/cut corners Not all plots are square or rectangular. There are some plots with projections or extensions, missing corners. Their effects are as follows:

brain. It is intellectually beneficial and you might use it with yellow accents instead of painting each wall yellow. Blue Color: Blue color is the favorite color of Lord Saturn or "Sani" and also for Lord Venus or "Sukiran" of the Navagraha planet as per jyotish Shastra. This colour represents Sky. It gives a sense of space and expansion that relaxes body and mind. It can be used for bedrooms or meditation rooms because of its calming and spiritual energy. It enhances meditative quality and it is believed that blue acts like a colour therapy to reduce blood pressure. Purple Color: Purple color is the favorite color of Lord Saturn or "Sani" of the Navagraha planet as per jyotish Shastra. It helps in reflecting positive reflections and stimulates meditation. This rich colour inspires faith, intuition and trust. It is very protective, spiritual and comforting. Never paint an entire room in purple as it could be overpowering. However an additional light violet colour can provide a very healing and calming atmosphere. White Color: White color is the favorite color of Lord Moon or "Chandran" and also for Lord Venus or "Sukiran" of the Navagraha planet as per jyotish Shastra. White is an elegant colour and works fine anywhere when combined with accent colours. It has an uplifting and cleansing aspect, however too much white can reflect a sterile and isolating quality. White ceilings are widely suggested by most of the scholars as they reflect light and brighten the room. A room in Northwest direction representing the room should use white and other bright colours like blue and green. Avoid grey and black colours specifically.
Square plot is that where the size of all four sides is same. If the size is any side varies within 5%, it still considered as square. Such plots are for not favored for residence, business or other purposes.
However the length of any side is varying within 10%, such plots are also considered as square only.
In a plot if the variation in sizes is more that 10 %, it is called rectangular. Such plots are ideal for residential, shop, office, buildings, factory and the like.
Where the principle directions - East, West, North & South are at right angles to the sides of the plot - such plots are called regular plot. Divide the plot into nine parts as shown, the central are and the directions are indicated in the plot.
Skewed Plot
Where the principle directions - East, West, North & South are not at right angles but at the corners to the sides of the plot - such plots are called skewed plot. Divide the plot into nine parts as shown, the central are and the directions are indicated in the plot.
If a plot / construction / hall or room be say 45 x 27 feet - divide the same into 9 parts as shown. The Divide middle the portion middle is area central area measuring 9 15 x as 9 feet. further into parts shown.
If by construction of a balcony, the length of the plot / construction / hall / room increases such divisions as explain in figure 1 get modified as shown in figure 2. For example if balcony is 6 feet, length of the total plot becomes 51 feet. Accordingly central area now be 17 x 9 feet (as opposed to 15 x 9 feet earlier) and prime central area would be 3 x 5.6 feet (as oppose to 5 x 3 feet earlier.)
If there be defect in the central area of a plot / construction / any room / floor (storey) / a room or any floor / terrace, its effects is marginal. If However such defect is in the prime central area the consequences are serious. If there be bore well, septic tank, underground water tank, sump, heavy machinery, over ground / over head water tank, pillar or column or the floor level is higher or lower in this prime central area - It has a debilitating effect on the head of the family / first child or the whole family. It may even lead to loss of progeny. If in a construction, if there be open space in the front and construction is pushed back, this central space of the plot, construction and the bedroom must be separately considered. In all these three central areas there should be no vastu defect. The central area should be marked as explain in figure 1. For locating the central areas for construction etc. follow the sequence as explain in figure 1 only. Care be taken that while identifying the central area of construction - only construction dimensions be considered.
Generally it is observed that the cental area of only ground floor is identified. However we may be constructing balconies on the top floor or terrace with the result that the size of the construction is now different and thus the central area of the building itself gets changed. In such a case if there be any construction such as bore well / septic tank / underground water tank or heavy installations in such modified central area or uneven floor level at this place the debilitating effects will visit the head of the family / first child / all even the whole family. It is for this reason that the central area of the construction of each storey / floor be taken from the roof / terrace only. if there be defect in the central area of any floor, residents of that floor only will suffer the effects. However the defects of ground floor and roof affects all residents.
In figure 1, two different plot / constructions are joined. Their central areas are also separate.
In figure 2, as shown in both the constructions if the middle wall is totally or partially removed, it notionally becomes one construction only and hence the central area of the combined plot / construction will only be one. If such modifications are under taken on one floor and no such corrections are applied on the upper or lower floors, it becomes a serious vastu defect causing untold miseries to the house leading to loss of progeny even. Note : If however the middle wall is not totally disturbed and a door is constructed instead, this defect is overcome.
