September 24, 2013 To the Residence Life Coordinator Search Committee, Over the past decade I have had

the opportunity to immerse myself in the field of residential housing on the collegiate level as a student, a paraprofessional, a CEO and a student affairs practitioner, and I have come to the realization that residence life is one of the most important aspects of the college experience. College is one of the few times in which students will be allowed to live in such a diverse community with minute to minute interactions with diversity that will develop them culturally, mentally, physically and socially. It is in this environment where I believe in the holistic development of the entire student through an intentional cocurriculum that not only advances cognitive development, but also the development of the individual, their values, and their ability to interact socially in a community. I feel that after serving in Residence Life for over a decade, I have a vision and experiences that can help benefit the Residence Life Program at The Pennsylvania State University. After doing research on the University and seeing where you are in your co-curricular plan, I would love to have the opportunity to work in an environment that promotes Respect and Responsibility as your educational priority. As a leader in forward thinking and intentionality in how we shape our students learning, I feel that Penn State would be a great career opportunity to help enhance my knowledge of Engaged Scholarship. I think it is important for the students that are attending college to have the opportunity to work with a residential life staff that seeks to promote the students achievements and their hard work and efforts and I feel that it is important for them to live in an environment that will provide the encouragement and enthusiasm which will help contribute to their overall success. I believe that I can help foster and create that kind of environment for a residential community at Penn State. I know that I do not currently hold a Masters Degree, but I do have 7 years of professional Residence Life experience as a Resident Director. From building community in an active programming model, to crisis intervention, roommate mediation, staff training and professional development, conference experiences, advising and supervision, I feel like I can be a valuable asset in residence life. I would eventually love to take classes for a Masters Degree in Higher Education and I think that obtaining a degree from Penn States Higher Education program would be an invaluable opportunity for me to continue to educate and develop myself as a professional staff member. My previous experiences at the University of Maine in Machias, Maine and Maryville College have really helped me to explore what kind of student affairs practitioner I want to be and I feel that working at Penn State University will help me to develop into that professional while always challenging me to be successful and make a difference. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me and I look forward to hearing from you to learn more about The Pennsylvania State University and the Office of Residence Life. Sincerely,
