Dudang ENGL104 The Kings Speech A Reflection Paper

BS PT 2 1 September 20, 2013

You dont need to be afraid of the things you were afraid of when you were five. This is the phrase was expressed by Lionel Logue to King George VI that means the most to me. His phrase tells us that the only permanent thing in this world is change and we, as a human being should adopt to those changes and strive to show the world who we are and what can we do. The true to life story of King George VI that is reflected in the movie is the most concrete example of bravery, trust and love that are the roots of being a true leader. Many people believe that bravery is about facing a challenge in the absence of fear. Many people can easily say that King George VI is a coward man who usually becomes frightful of standing in front of a large crowd with an intention to speak but losing all the faith in him because of his difficulty in speaking. The only person who believes in him and treated him as the bravest man he knows is Lionel and what I also believe because the true meaning of bravery is about being afraid and with those chilling of hands, knocking of knees and rapid heartbeats will direct you to step out of it and make a bold move that will lead you to see and prove what the universe has for you. By being able to express what he truly feels even if many will become disappointed is considered as part of his success. He can never reach his goal if he shows hypocrisy to himself but instead, his attitude replicates his sincerity that one believes that if you are true to yourself, so it is to other people. But the most important thing that the King did is to overcome hardships that were never been easy for the sake of speaking in behalf of his people. Trust, in its bold sense is about submitting yourself with confidence to oneself or to others. I believe that trust is a part of bolding his courage to be able to reach his goal. Many have said that it is essential to learn how to trust because with that, you will learn how to live and find yourself. Trust accompanies humility because it is about surrendering, accepting and giving just like how the King accepted Lionels decisions and advice even if he declined at first because of his pride and feeling of superiority since he is the son of a King. But later on, trusted Lionels words and letting him enter in his life not just a simple therapist for speech defects but as a friend to whom he can count on. Yet, the most significant person he trusted is himself because without it, he can never had the courage to face the pressures and expectations exerted by the world but as what I believed, you can never know what you can do unless you tried. The root of all those determination of moulding your personality is encircled to the essence of love. Without love for himself and for the people he can never have such perseverance of turning what people thinks as impossible to possible. Bravery, trust and love are the three traits that constitute a great leader. Being able to try and never give up to face any challenges, able to submit humbly to oneself and to others and most importantly being devoted for the things you want for a change by inspiring others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more is a true leader who, from being afraid of changes in life will do everything to stride out of it and adopt to be able to obtain success not by what you get but what you have become in reaching your destination. . He can choose to live his known life as a stammerer and to never speak again for the people but he chose to become a person that will bestow an unforgettable mark to his fellow countrymens life.
