RNC 3820 Connection Information

RNC 3820 External Connections
External Connections from the RNC 3820 are as follows: 1. Iu Interfaces to Core Network Nodes MSCs and SGSNs. MGWs are transparent to the RNC 3820s and not included in any node definitions. All Iu Interfaces are IP based and connected externally to the CMXB boards in the Main Subrack, via the APP 2. Iub Interfaces to Node Bs Iub Interfaces may be ATM or IP based. IP based Iub connections are via the CMXB boards in the Main Subrack connected externally via the APP. ATM based Iub connections are via ETMF41 boards connected to Telstras SDH network. 3. Mub Interfaces to O&M Routers Node B Mub Interface are cross-connected through the RNC from the ETMF41 boards to ETM4 boards which are connected via STM-1s to Telstra O&M Routers.

RNC 3820 IP Configuration

IP transport in RNC 3820 is supported with CMXB and ET-IPG boards used for Iu, Iur, and Iub interfaces. The ET-IPG board implements IP interface and IP termination for Iu/Iur and Iub interfaces. The CMXB is an Ethernet switch board used both for internal transport in the RNC and for all external IP traffic. All CMXB boards will be interconnected in a star topology with Ethernet Subrack Links (ESL). Traffic is separated in different VLANs by defining multiple IpInterface MOs. IP Hosts are connected to the IpInterface representing the desired VLAN. The Iu and Iub are configured in the RNC 3820 in the following way: 1. SigTran (Iu-cs/Iu-ps/Iur Control Plane) Two IPAccessHostGPBs reference IPInterface MOs defined on the ET-IPGs on the Main Subrack. IPInterface MOs define two Sigtran VLANs, one per IPInterface. Note: In the CCR Form it is the CMXB and not the ET-IPG that the IP Interface is defined on. 2. Iu-cs/Iur User Plane The IPAccessHostPool references IPAccessHostEt MOs, for which there is one per ET-IPG. IPAccessHostEt MOs reference the IPInterface MO defined for Iucs/Iur userplane on the ET-IPG. 3. Iu-ps User Plane IPAccessHostSpb for each SPB with PDR device (9 in Type 110) reference IPInterface MOs defined on the ET-IPGs on the same subrack. 4. Iub Control and User Plane Iub Control is defined with an IPAccessSctp MO which references IPAccessHostEt MOs and uses the same IP addresses as the Iub User plane. Iub User Plane is defined with an IPAccessHostPool which references IPAccessHostEt MOs, for which there is one per ET-IPG.

The figure below shows the IP configuration of the RNC 3820s:

The figures below show the Ports on the CMXB Boards

Note that Ports are referenced 1 8, where A = Port 1, B = Port 2, C = Port 3 etc.

5.1

Default Gateways
There are five different IP networks connected to the Telstra RNC 3820s IP Network for O&M, referred to as OptNet IP Network for Core Network Signalling, referred to as SigNet IP Network for Iu-cs/Iur payload, referred to as Telstra Media IP Network for Iu-ps payload, referred to as RanNet IP Network for Iub signalling and payload, referred to as Titan (Metro or Regional)

Each IP Network uses two Routers directly connected to each RNC 3820. For each IP Network, the routers are referred to as the Default Gateway Routers for that IP Network. The Routers are connected to be load-sharing. Half of the ET-IPG will have Router 1 as the defaultRouter(0) and Router 2 as the defaultRouter(1). The other half of the ET-IPG have the opposite configuration which will result in the IP load being evenly distributed between the two Routers.

5.2

Internal IP Network (BEES)

In the RNC 3820, node-internal IP transport is used for user plane data transmission between the subracks. It is accomplished by Back-end Ethernet Switching (BEES) network that has special paths set up. The internal BEES network is identified by its VLAN ID = 2001 and has its own private address block 192.168.101.x/24. The BEES internal network has its own pool of hosts that is preconfigured with host ETs for all ET-IPG boards in the initial configuration. For each ETIPG there is one dedicated IpInterface and one IpAccessHostEt that is used for BEES. The BEES Internal Network is preconfigured on the RNC 3820 and there is no need to load configuration data for node-internal transport.

5.3

External IP Network
VLANs that are configured on the RNC 3820s are shown in the Table below. Note: VLAN Ids shown are for NBTB and WPN2, specific VLAN IDs should be obtained from the Design documents. ES1 and ES2 ports do not apply to the model.

IP Interface Configuration
The table below shows the IPInterfaces defined on the ET-IPG boards. VLAN, Subnet, Default Routers and RPS IP addresses are obtained from the Telstra Design Brief for each RNC. ET-IPG Board Position (Subrack-Slot) Ip Interface Name MS-4_1 MS-4 MS-4_2 MS-4_3 MS-4_4 MS-25_1 MS-25 MS-25_2 MS-25_3 MS-25_4 ES1-4_2 ES-1-4 ES1-4_3 ES1-4_4 ES1-25_2 ES-1-25 ES1-25_3 ES1-25_4 ES2-4_2 ES-2-4 ES2-4_3 ES2-4_4 ES2-25_2 ES-2-25 ES2-25_3 ES2-25_4 Description SigTran Vlan #1 Iu-cs/Iur Userplane Iu-ps Userplane Iub Control and Userplane SigTran Vlan #2 Iu-cs/Iur Userplane Iu-ps Userplane Iub Control and Userplane Iu-cs/Iur Userplane Iu-ps Userplane Iub Control and Userplane Iu-cs/Iur Userplane Iu-ps Userplane Iub Control and Userplane Iu-cs/Iur Userplane Iu-ps Userplane Iub Control and Userplane Iu-cs/Iur Userplane Iu-ps Userplane Iub Control and Userplane

5.5

Router Path Supervision (RPS)

Router Path Supervision (RPS) is used to monitor the links from the RNC to the Default Gateway routers. In the configuration for the Telstra RNC 3820s RPS is not used for SigTran, but is used for Iu/Iur userplane and Iu-ps userplane connections. RPS requires one IP address defined in the RNC for each link to be monitored. Since there are two Default gateway routers (except for Model Iub), two RPS IP addresses are required for each VLAN. The Active RPS address is shared with the application eg for the Iu/Iur VLAN the same IP address is used for Iu-cs/Iur userplane and Active RPS. The passive RPS address cannot be shared and is allocated separately.

5.6

Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP)

RSTP allows redundancy in the Ethernet-switched connections in the RNC 3820 without introducing loops. RSTP is configured in the RNC 3820 by setting parameters on switch and switch port level. In the RNC 3820 the Managed Objects representing switch and switch port level are: EthernetSwitchModule which represents the main functionality of an Ethernet switch with backplane ports. This MO also represents the backplane ports. EthernetSwitchModulePort represents the front port of the Ethernet switch represented by an EthernetSwitchModule. The Telstra RNC 3820 Ethernet is terminated on the routers. The external ports must be set to be edge ports, as the RSTP domain ends there. There is no risk of loops, as RSTP solves them inside the node and Ethernet is terminated on the routers. The attribute edgePortMode has to be set to ADMIN_EDGE_ON for the edge ports The RSTP configuration in the Telstra RNC 3820 is a double star configuration, based around the two CMXB boards in the Main Subrack. CMXB MS-3 is the root bridge, assigned the lowest attribute, bridgePriority in MO SwitchStp.

The Table below shows the configuration required for RSTP.
