Valley Youth Orchestra, is in her ninth year as the director of orchestras

at Shattuck-St. Mary's School in Faribault, where she also serves as
Short Overture Don Gillis chair of the Fine Arts Department. Her groups have received consistent
To an Unwritten Opera superior ratings at regional and state competitions, including "Best in
Site" for the jazz sub-section, a first ever for a string group in the state of
Symphony No. 8 in B Minor Franz Schubert Minnesota. Before joining the Cannon Valley Youth Orchestra, she was
(“Unfinished”) principal conductor for the Southeastern Minnesota Youth Orchestras for
Allegro moderato two years. She is a specialist in the Bornoff Approach to string education
Andante con moto and has given numerous workshops and clinics, both in the Midwest and
the New England areas. She has been on the staff of the Bay State
Cannon Valley Regional Orchestra String Camp in Massachusetts for over ten years, where she has been
the principal orchestra director as well as teacher of violin, viola, cello
and bass classes.
Intermission
Paul Niemisto, conductor and founder of the CVRO in 1979, is a
Ode to Joy Ludwig van Beethoven/John Caponegro member of the St. Olaf College music faculty. He is a graduate of the
University of Michigan and received additional conducting training at the
Sonatine for Strings Elliot Del Borgo Mozarteum International Summer Academy in Salzburg and at the
American Symphony Orchestra League Institute. While in Canada
Haydn Orchestra of the Cannon Valley Youth Orchestra during the 1970s he was a conductor of the Prince Edward Island
Symphony and the South Shore Orchestra and was a playing member of
the CBC Halifax Orchestra. Recently, he has been a regular summer
traveler to Finland, where he teaches courses in conducting, performs in
Symphony No. 12 in G Major W.A. Mozart/Sandra Dackow brass festivals, and conducts bands and orchestras. Since 1991 he has
I. Allegro directed a Finnish-American brass ensemble, “Boys of America,” which
has traveled widely and made recordings in the U.S. and Scandinavia.
