Day 1 Arrival at Muscat Airport & transfer to the camp Full day: Arrival at Muscat International Airport. From here you will be driven to Wadi Mistal and your camp for the night. Wadi Mistal opens up into what is known as Ghubrah Bowl, where the views are spectacular with high mountains surrounding this crater like area which stretches in all directions. The group will first visit the mountain village of Wakan, high up on a ridge in the mountains. This is the perfect opportunity to see the life of the Jebalis (mountain people), who live in these remote locations. The terraced hillsides provide plenty of available crops for the village: rice, beans, onions, wheat, almonds, pomegranates, figs, dates, to name many of the variety of foods available. All of this grown through the life-giving spring water that runs from these mountains, through the artificial irrigation canals known as a falaj, all year round. Evening: Dinner and overnight at the camp. Day 2 Morning: After waking up to a fantastic sunrise and spectacular views, you will have breakfast and prepare to leave for the next part of the journey. The drive will involve an off-road experience through one of Omans best loved wadi systems: Wadi Bani Awf. This 3 hours journey in 4x4 vehicles will take you over the Jebal Akdhar Mountains to the interior. En-route you will pass through many other small villages and visit another village tucked away in the mountains. The group will hike through what is known as the Gorgette, a narrow gorge which leads to the village of Bilad Seet. The village is set under the high ridges of the Jebal, and provides a lush environment to live and work: plantations of dates, rice, fruit trees and a school. After a short walk around this village, we will set off on our journey up and over Sharaf al Alamayn, from where you can see spectacular views across the interior and back down Wadi Bani Awf from where you came. Lunch will be had on this ridge, at almost 2000 m above sea level. The group will descend to the interior and visit the recently opened Al Hooti Cave system. After our visit here, we will continue the journey to Nizwa, the old Capital of Oman. After checking into your hotel, you will have time to relax and unwind after the busy journey through the mountains. Nizwa & the desert Morning: We will visit Nizwa fort and the Souk. The fort has a wealth of interesting artifacts, a museum, plenty of places to explore and fantastic views across the Wilayat of Nizwa. The group will be given plenty of time to explore this amazing place before walking to the Souk. People from all over bring their goods to sell at the Nizwa souk. The hustle and bustle of the market, its traders and customers, takes you back in time. Nizwa souq is also an ideal place for picking up those souvenirs. Lunch will be in Nizwa, before we take the next drive into the interior. Wadi Bani Awf & Nizwa
