Family Readiness = Mission Readiness!

What you need to know--about NFAAS (Navy Family Accountability and Assessment System)
After a major disaster, the Navy must account for the location of all personnel and their families, and assist those in need. NFAAS is a Web-based tool that Navy uses to locate, account for, assess, and monitor the recovery of those affected by a widespread event. NFAAS is accessible 24/7 from any computer with internet and by smartphones. After a disaster, log into NFAAS to muster (like roll call) and report your needs. If you cannot access a computer, call the Navy Personnel Command Emergency Coordination Center at 1-877-414-5358 or 1-866-297-1971 (TDD). https://navyfamily.navy.mil

OCTOBERDOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH

This is a national and Navy-wide campaign to raise awareness of domestic violence and the resources for prevention and response. Did you know that over 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men in the U.S. have reported experiencing rape, physical violence and/or stalking by an intimate partner. National statistics reveal that domestic abuse affects more than 4 million people each year, with almost 17,000 of them killed by an intimate partner. Domestic violence continues to be misunderstood and under-reported. This month, you can help break the silence surrounding this issue.

Know the Warning Signs

If the person you think is an abuser is: Acting excessively jealous of his/her partner. Insulting or embarrassing his/her partner in public. Yelling at or trying to intimidate his/her partner. Or, if the person you suspect is a victim is: Showing physical injuries, or wearing unusual clothing as if to hide an injuring (sunglasses indoors or long sleeves in the summer). Afraid of their partner, talking about his/her temper, possessiveness, or jealousy. Restricted from seeing family and friends. Limited in access to money or a car. Depressed, anxious, or suicidal.

Intervention: Be Part of the Solution

If you see any of the warning signs, the behavior you are witnessing may be abusive. Follow your instincts. Don't wait! Look for a private moment where you can express concern and let them know you are there to support them. For resources, please contact Military OneSource, Fleet and Family Support, your Ombudsman,
(Adapted from Wavewinds September-October 2013, p. 25).

OCTOBERNATIONAL DISABILITY EMPLOYMENT AWARENESS MONTH

Fleet and Family Support Center can help with resume writing, job search, and workshops. Call centralized scheduling to make an appointment 866-923-6478. (Adapted from Wavewinds

What is an Ombudsman? Ombudsmen are trained volunteers, and military spouses within the command, who are appointed by the Commanding Officer. What is the Ombudsmans Purpose? Navy Ombudsmen serve as a resource for family members, especially before and during deployments, relocation, crisis, emergencies, and other major life events. The Ombudsman Code of Ethics guarantees support of the commands mission, professionalism, and confidentiality, within program guidelines. How can my Ombudsman help me? Your BUNKER HILL Ombudsman can help you find the resources you need to solve almost any problem. I provide official and accurate command information. When appropriate, I can access chain of command for intervention. I am also available 24/7 for emergency assistance. I am unable to share ship-specific information, such as dates, places, and times regarding ships movement or activities, unless as directed by the command. I also cannot provide transportation, babysitting services, food, financial assistance, or counseling services. But, I CAN give referrals to resources that provide these services and more!
