Lesson Plan:

Self-Wheel worksheet: Students to independently fill in the appropriate wheel spoke (+) or (-) as teacher reads aloud the following questions (will also be written on the board) 1. I am good at 2. I could improve in 3. One of the things I like about myself is 4. One thing I would like to change about myself is 5. Other people think or say I am good at 6. Other people say I need to improve in 7. One very good thing I have is 8. One mistake I have made is *Answers can be relating to school, personal life, appearance, anything! Stress that I dont know or nothing arent acceptable answers.

Introduce idea of self-acceptance ask students to offer explanation of concept. Explain that we are going to do some work on self-acceptance. Explain Self- Wheel worksheet. Hand out worksheet (team members to assist) Read aloud/show on presentation (team member to assist with technical side) questions for self-wheel. Allow approx. 30-45 sec per question Stress that answers could be relating to any area of life/self and I dont know or nothing arent acceptable answers. Facilitate discussion, making the following points - All people are complex - Its important that we become aware of our good points/those things to improve - Emphasise that peoples good qualities vary and there is no hierarchy - Ask students if they would throw out a bicycle if it had one spoke on a wheel broken. Ask them to justify. - Connect the idea of not throwing out bike due to one small negative aspect (bike still functions) to whether it makes sense to think youre hopeless/negate good points when something bad happens eg. Bullying, harassed, excluded. Point out that its our thinking about the things that happen to us that influence our feel about ourselves as well as how we view others. Hand over to Kate to explore this issue further.
