1. Introduction 1. Hold ventilation system (further as HV) is intented for air exhaust from the hold and fresh air delivery into the hold. 1.2. Calculation for HV system is done according to WD 5.5584-89 Air conditioning and ventilation ships systems. Designing rules. 1.3. Calculation for HV system is done with the purpose to: ) define content of air delivered into the hold; ) define number and dimensions of the HV system equipment. 1.4. The HV system basic diagram No.616-541.00-001. 2. The hold ventilation system calculation 2.1. Natural combined extract and input ventilation is provided via ventilation water-gas-tight covers mounted in the cargo hatch coaming. 2.2. Definition of dimensions for one cargo hold ventilation covers: 2.2.1. Total square of flow area section of ventilation covers is defined by formula:
F = L , v 3600

m2, where

F total square of flow area section of ventilation covers, m 2; L content of air delivered into the hold, m 3/hr; v = 5,2 m/sec. the vessel speed, m/sec.; = 0,7- coefficient of speed for air flow via the cover; = 0,5- coefficient of speed for air exhaust via the cover; 2.2.2. Amount of air delivered into the hold is defined by formula: L=Vhold n = 685 2 = 1370 m3/hr, where 3 Vhold = 685 m capacity of the hold; n = 2 exchanges number per hour. 2.2.3. Total square of flow area section of ventilation covers for flow :
F1 = 1370 = 0, 105 m2 5 ,2 3600 0,7 1370 = 0, 146 m2 5 ,2 3600 0,5

2.2.4. Total square of flow area section of ventilation covers for exhaust :
F2 =

2.2.5. Total square of flow area section for flow and exhaust subject to coefficient of obstruction from louvers k= 0,64: F = (F1 + F2) / k = (0,105m2 + 0,146m2) / 0,64 = 0,392m2 2.2.6. Square of flow area section of ventilation cover ND 350/190550: Fcover = 0,0984 m2 2.2.7. Number of covers:
n= F F = 0,392 =3 ,98 0,0984

L F= v360

2.2.8. Number of covers per one cargo hold is accepted as n=4. 3. Conclusion It is provided for operation of the natural hold ventilation system: For one cargo hold 2 ventilation water-gas-tight covers ND350 for flow, 2 ventilation water-gas-tight covers ND350 for exhaust. Total number per a vessel 8 covers ND 350/190550
